Post by benamos »

I am stuck on the battle 2nd Macedonian War: Cynocephalae
I can only lose 225 men in under 220 minutes, i get stuck every time as their heavys just pound me an then encircle me

Can sum1 please give us a hand

The enemy has 1 cavelry to the left n 2 light infantry which charge, and 1 cavelry on da rite which charges, it has 2 archers in top rite surrounded by no less than 7 heavies.

I too have trouble with this, although my problem is beating the time limit. The Greeks always have one formed unit on the field when time runs out. I send to cav units to take out the skirmishers in the enemy left rear and use my heavies to engage the Royal Guard. Part of my problem is my archers have no experience left. This battle may be one to keep trying new combinations of troops and deployments. I saved it when I still have 600+ denarii so I can mix and match.

I'll try a variant of that. Won't sell all, just some.

Hallo everybody :o ,i am an italian player and i have tried this battle about twenty times before winning:the only mix of
units possible is in my opinion not less than nine or ten heavy infantry like hastati, principes, triari and legions, well trained
(level 15 or 16 minimum)and well equipped(offensive and defensive weapons of first and second level). You have to
deploy your troops in a square formation, three, three and three and one for strategical reserve if you have ten heavy
infantry units.Archers and cavalry are not useful and good for this battle.Than you have to charge from the beginning
because there is a time limit and try to engage the royal guards as soon as possible, don't care about the enemy cavalry
or the light infantry, they don't make you loose many men.If you are able to engage the royal guard immediatly and to
put it in trouble from the beginning,it will be very hard but try,all the light enemy infantry units and archers will escape
from the field then send the general to fight against the royal guard in the critical moment of the battle. If you suceed in
keep all your units together and if you are a little bit lucky victory will be yours. But may be you have to try this battle
many times before winning like me.Sorry for my english,i hope you can understand me if you want you can contact me
on this site or at my e-mail address tignanello63@yahoo.it so we can give us each other suggestions for this battle which
is the hardest one till now and for the future too.Good luck, this game is really great and remember that in the hystorical
battles the legions always defeated the macedon armies, because they were the best soldiers

A strong front line of heavy infantry is important (I prefer Principes on a cost/benefit basis), but you should have at least one or two light infantry to flush skirmishers out a few rough spots (or draw opposing heavy units in), a unit or three of heavy cavalry to engage their opposites, and adding one or two units of archers can make life a lot easier for your own main line. Target the enemy's best units with the archers; you won't kill many, but the few that are injured will make those units disorder and break a lot faster when your own heavies contact them, so they will inflict a lot less casualties on your own troops before they run.

Archery is one method of "concentration of force". The more troops you can concentrate on a target, while most of the opposing units are still unengaged, the more casualties you can inflict in proportion to those you suffer. I like to "taunt" one or two key enemy units into attacking ahead of the main assault, and swamp them with a wave of my own units before turning to face the rest of the enemy. In scenarios without a time constraint, I can generally rack up 10:1 kill ratios or better on almost every scenario, even on the highest difficulty setting. This one is tougher because of the limit, but the same rules still apply.

everything on this post makes sense to me except for the archers. why dont they show up on my list of soldiers to recruit? also i invested heavily on my cavalry up to this point. and now they are useless on this battle. even if i disband them, the heavy infrantry i purchase will be too weak to stand up to their heavies. what options do i have?

pleez help. i have been stuck for a week now.

also why cant i find any cheats for this game.
