Green stars for USSR?

Odd thing that I have seen for the first time. Started a PBEM of "Three Rivers" using the latest update, and about half of my USSR units have the expected red star above the units, but the rest have a green star? I can't find any commonality, such as the green ones being armour only, or anything like that. It seems random, and has definitely got me stumped as to what it means. Anyone? tia

Green starts mean your units are 'Green' troops and have lower morale. Don't remember if they change after they gain experience.
