Production Placement

Post by PsychoWulf »

I really enjoy playing this game, especially because of the good AI.

But lastly I’m wondering a bit about the Placement of the Production Points on the map, especially the German and Russian one.

When I rethought my Strategy as CP I figured out, that the degree of decision freedom as CP is very limited because I’m forced to defend Prussia and I can’t figure out the reason why you decided to make Konigsberg of such importance.

The Industrial base of Germany isn’t in Konigsberg (14), it is in the Ruhr (4) area.

The German Production is ahistorical placed to be closer as historical to the Russian boarder, while the Russian production looks like ahistorical placed far away from the German border.

In your new Version it looks better, but still I’m not totally convinced.

Konigsberg is Kind of unimportant in matter of industrial Output. The same goes for Wilhelmshaven. I’m still wondering why you rate this City so strong; it is basically just a Military port like scapa flow. The Warship production took place in Hamburg, Bremen and Kiel.

Mentionable is that after 1890 a mass movement from east to west had started. The so called: „größte Massenbewegung der Deutschen Geschichte“ (Köllmann).
About 47% of the total German Population has changed their living place in that time mostly from Prussia to the Ruhr area, Berlin and Silesia. Some historians even think it’s the biggest Population movement in the European history.

I would suggest you rate the German Industrial Production a Little bit more like this:

The Biggest sources for industrial productions are:
1. The Ruhr area
2. The Rheine area
3. Silesia / Berlin / Saxony
4. Hamburg / Bremen / Kiel
5. Lothringen / South Germany

Wilhelmshaven is of no importance at all, it is just a port for warships with no Industry, no big Population (basically the whole Population of the City is just the Crew of the ships with an amusement Service sector)
East Prussia is just a farming area with nearly no industrial importance.
Berlin is not the Center of the German war industry.

I think this is of importance because it changes the strategic situation of the German empire by a huge margin.
The German high command decided west first, because the loss of East Prussia would have been of minor interest at all. It was affordable.
The loss of Lothringen on the other hand would have been a setback in the German war affords. A loss of the Ruhr or Rhein area would have been the end of every German war capability instantly.
Even a combined loss of Berlin, Silesia and Eastprusia would leave Germany still capable of making war.
A loss of the Ruhr/Rhein area would have been a total defeat and would lead to a total collapse of the German war industry in a couple of weeks.

West Germany is the base of Germans war capability, not East Germany.
I would suggest a rate of 70:30 West to East Ratio.

I am very interested in Psychowulf's argument in his two posts. Would the developers care to comment please?
