MOAB 2014

Post by ravenflight »

Hello All,

MOAB 2014 is on over the first (long) weekend in October... so less than a month away.

15mm Field of Glory: Renaissance (FoG:R)

This is an 800a.p. open competition with any army from any list.

Players are permitted to submit two lists. The first, and primary list must comply with all minimums and maximums from the selected list. This list will be used unless the player has clearly announced that he is using his alternative list during the 'detached shot' section of the setup rules. It is suggested that players become familiar with the setup sequence as laid out in page 177&178 of the rules. The second list may be used only if the 'detached shot' option is being used and must comply with pages 182-183 of the rule book. A secondary list is only available if submitted to the organiser prior to the commencement of play on the first day.

All players must provide their own terrain.

Games will be 3 hours + a random number of minutes not less than 10 minutes and not more than 30 minutes. Once time is called players will conclude their current phase if it would affect the outcome of the game. There will be two games each day.
There is a slight rules modification that I will be employing:

"Uncontrolled or captured artillery are removed immediately after 'Move Routers and Pursuers' of the Joint Action Phase."

8:30 muster for a 9:00 rolling of dice.

Please let me know if you're interested.

Hi Guys,

Less than a month to go. Please get your entries in.

So far we have 5 (inc me) with a promise of 3 more, and several from last year haven't joined yet, so it looks like a reasonable turnout... i.e. it will definitely go ahead. If you're thinking about it/wondering about it/have the weekend off, please get along and play. The more the merrier.

Well, MOAB is over for yet another year. A fun time was had by all. There were no arguments and no dummy spits despite an incredible run of luck by the tourney organiser (me).

Full rankings to follow, but the prizes went:

Nominally first but as a non-playing umpire was me running Japanese,
First place on podium was Stephen Vassallo running Ottomans
Second place on Podium was Craig Waterson running Russians
Third place on Podium was Stephen Black running Swedish TYW
Best and Fairest (combination of nicest player and nicest painted army) George Galloway running Woodland Indians
Nicest player in the form of never once killing an enemy general went to Guy Sheppard.

As stated earlier, will give a blow by blow of the points scored in a later e-mail after I've had a reasonable amount of sleep.

Thanks to all players for making an easy run comp.
Thanks to Kym and the MOAB team.
A special thanks to Ross Dawe of SAAW for doing a great job of list checking.

Same format for CanCon in January.

Hope to see you all there.

Thanks Stephen,

Yes, I feel it was a great comp. Small, but fun. Must remember to get more sleepy time at CanCon :).

That IS more likely though, as I camp at the grounds and so can't do a whole lot after the sun goes down.

Hi Nigel,

Yes, the Japanese did very well, but I wouldn't count my score as much to do with skill. I don't think I'm a slouch of a player, but I think the fact that my luck chickens all came home to roost in one comp is more telling than anything. It's a good solid army, but luck can make even the worst army excellent. My worst luck was against Stephen (above) where he fired 3 rounds of 4 artillery at one BG of Samurai getting 1 hit on every round of firing and taking a casualty each time! It wasn't enough though, because after three rounds I managed to get into his P&S and have a fun time of my own. That said, when I complained (in good nature) to the group at Stephen's luck in his shooting, I got a resounding 'GOOD' by way of sympathy! I think that says enough for how much luck I had at MOAB this year.

The wife is smiling... Now to win the lottery...

My wife worked in Sydney in the late 80s on a year out... We have family who live in Sydney (Abbotsford).. She has visited off and on... We visited last April 2013.. Enjoyed the blue mountains....

I assume next years is about the same time....

Yes it will be. You can guarantee the date which is the Labour Day long weekend... which I think is the first weekend in October.

Glad that MOAB went well.

I always had fun at MOAB when I used to live in Aus.

was always a good excuse to do a road trip from Canberra and heckle the Sydneysiders.
