The Worlds 2015

Post by zoltan »

Portugal will host The Worlds (individual event) in Lisbon in August 2015.

Our colleagues in Portugal have many years experience running the ITC teams event in Lisbon. They have an excellent venue and the city of Lisbon is wonderful to visit.

More information will be advised soon. We are first deciding whether the dates should be 15-16 August (the weekend following Britcon) or 22-23 August. (Hopefully the dates for ITC Rome will also become clear within the next few days so it will be another busy August/September next year!).

We are also considering whether Lisbon should be a 3 day or 2 day event (depending on the rule sets offered and if player numbers can support 3 days).

FoG AM & R and SAGA are definite contenders with FoG N, DBM, DBMM and Art of War also being considered if there is sufficient interest. If you are a serious prospect for attending The Worlds in Lisbon in August 2015 please feel free to express a preference here for dates, 2 or 3 days and rule sets.

FoG:N should be mandatory, shouldn't it? 8)

I would love to attend. I can say with assurance that Lisbon is a great city and that the organizers run events well. However, it is unclear at this time whether I will be able to. Family events are semi-scheduled for next summer. Short version: don't look to me for input on the dates.

We have now confirmed that The Worlds will be held in Lisbon over the weekend 12-13 September (perhaps including the afternoon of Friday 11th). This is the weekend following ITC in Rome.

The Portugese hosts are now giving thought to finalising the rule sets to be offered, timetable etc and this will be published in due course.

The venue will be the Military Museum next to the Jeronimos Monastery, in the picturesque suburb of Belem, Lisbon. Players who have previously attended the ITC in Lisbon will be familiar with this venue.

The precise timetable depends on which rule sets are offered and whether the rule sets need 2 days or 3 days to play. For example, I think it is likely that for FoG it will include the Friday afternoon in order to have 5 or 6 rounds. But I do not know how long is needed to play (for example) SAGA or the new French rule set "Art of War".

I am sure our Portugese hosts will tell us the precise timetable as soon as possible. Personally, I have assumed it will include the Friday afternoon.
