Unit A is attacked by units X and Y, both X and Y are supported by Z
X gets +1 for support and A -1
Y gets +1 for support and A -1
So A loses 2 die.
Did we get it right ?

Re: Rear support -effect
Not quite..... No unit will ever get more than a "+" or "-" one die as a result of rear support, regardless of the number of units involved.
In your example, X and Y each get +1 for rear support, while A gets -1.
To turn it around, if A had rear support, and X and Y did not, A would be +1 and X and Y would each be -1.......... even though facing two units A still only gets one dice.
And also, if both sides all have rear support, the supports cancel each other out so there is no + or -.

Re: Rear support -effect
I find the simplest way to remember this rule is for each player to look at each one of their own units that are fighting and say:
a) does my unit have rear support, if so +1.
b) does my enemy have rear support, if so -1.
If you have two of your own units fighting then do this for each of your units.

Interesting
I cannot see in the rules where there is a limit to + or - dice - happy if you could point me in the relight direction.
If I apply the rules, as written, then
Unit has rear support +1 and each opponent -1
So 2 attackers both with support would mean -2
If the rules said
Unit has rear support +1
Opponent has rear support -1
Then that would be clear.

Re: Rear support -effect
One way to look at this is where you have two units facing one unit all of whom qualify for rear support. We do not say that there is a net loss of one die for the single unit or a net gain for one of the other two .It is a zero sum all round.

Re: Rear support -effect
My take on it is that each opponent individually loses one die. You have two units attacking but only one opposing unit defending, thus -1 die loss. If you had a situation where your two attacking units were to hit two defending opposing units, one one of your attackers partially contacts two defenders, then each defending unit would lose -1 die for rear support, but the attacker still gains +1 die for each separate attack. Attacker gets +1 die per combat, not 2 dice which he can use wherever he wants.Unit has rear support +1 and each opponent -1

You are correct in that the rules are not as explicit as they could be.paulbg wrote:I cannot see in the rules where there is a limit to + or - dice - happy if you could point me in the relight direction
