Ruddocked 2

Post by titanu »

Image

In the above picture the unit with the red spot behind it, 2 wide and 3 deep had routed once and now had to rout again towards their table edge, 45% towards the top left. The units to their front and rear are enemy. So they cannot turn 90% as it would meat the unit behind. So Dave formed them into a column behind the 3 bases touching the red square markers. Then they had to wheel 90% to go up the photo at 45%. They could not wheel as there was no room between them and the unit to their front, so they then slid by the amount needed to miss the unit to their front, thus pushing the rest of the column back. I gave up and burst into tears at this point and have been self harming ever since. Was I right to do so?

I did call the umpire but the umpire was ..... Dave

So, did either of you actually look at the rules? I think it's covered, but can't remember exactly what it says.

Yes we looked at p116 first major bullet down - Broken troops not in contact with the enemy make a normal distance move towards their sides rear edge, making wheels and/or turns as appropriate to end their move as close as possible to their rear edge.

So I could not find anything that Dave was doing that did not adhere to the above but it seemed intuitively wrong.

You are in the right place Bob but struggling to understand why you think it is wrong?
(Apart from the fact that you were playing Mr R - I did warn you of the dangers inherent in this some time ago - you have clearly not heeded my warning  - you now need special counselling.)

Routers are allowed 2 base widths to shift past obstructions. Everything you describe appears to be fully in accordance with the rules.

Go back to playing that nice Mr Ellis instead.

Yes I think you did that correctly. They can't turn, so they wheel. Pretty soon the unit to the fron will stop them so they start shifting up to two base widths. Lack of space will mean they have to shift and also form a column to avoid the enemy.

What really made Bob cry was when I successfully rallied them a turn later...

You didn't see the game in the morning. Fortunately in the afternoon bobs dice were as bad (if not worse) than mine.

I had a unit rout from shooting. Bolstered to steady, turned around and got routed again, despite having an ic in attendance.

Its not actually that difficult to rally troops with an ic as you only need an eight.

My first opponent at the IWC had two units of undrilled knights that were tempted to charge. So he put an IC with one lot and a TC with the other. Both units failed their test, despite only needing a 5 and 6 respectively to hold. Then both failed next bound. And both the bound after.
