Ruddocked 1

In the picture above in the impact the unit of javelinmen 2 wide and 3 deep has charged the single element column of handgunners. The javelinmen want to expand now to make them 3 wide and 2 deep thus giving them 2 files overlap over the column. Thus when the column expands by a single file they are still over lapped. I did not like this but could not see any objection when reading the rules.
What do the team think?

HI Bob

Had it done to me a few times now so think it is okay.

Pages 78 to 80 cover it and don't say that the expanded bases need to contribute melee dice at the point of expansion.

Yes but the first line in the paragraph says 'A battle group involved in close combat can gradually feed more bases into a protracted melee'. The implication is that they have to be able to take part in the melee

The rules do allow you to do this and don't require that the bases expand to a fighting or overlap position. I think it's reasonable; after all the handgunners will often expand anyway so the bases do get to fight.

FWIW I can see nothing wrong with this - such an expansion is permitted by the rules.

See what happens when a baby seal gets angry. It resorts to its legal tricks.

You mean reading the rules and playing by them.

You should try it one day :)
