Red border - secondary objectives

Post by captainjack »

I'm starting to get the hang of using zones and there are plenty of scenarios I can check for examples of how to trigger captured or reward units and some for scripted allied reinforcements, but so far I haven't found any scenarios with secondary objectives and am a bit hazy on the special hexes and how they work differently than setting that hex as a one-hex zone.

Can anyone give simple examples of how to use secondary objective hexes and special hexes?

Afrika Korps makes use of secondary objectives. One is already in the first mission Reconnaissance in Force.

Far as I know, they are the same as Primary objectives, but have a different 'zone' attached to them. The gold border etc. still apply.

However, I haven't ever seen the point to using them.

Yeah, they seem to work exactly the same as primary objectives and can be set as objectives for victory.

The basic difference between zones and primary and secondary objectives is that the AI units set to attack will always move towards the nearest primary or secondary objective owned by the enemy, but they do not move towards zones, unless told to do so by the "move" or "patrol" zone scripts.

For a time I thought that AI units on attack would first move to take all primary objectives and only then against secondary objectives as it would make some sense IMO, but it is not the case. They just move towards the nearest objecive either it is primary or secondary.

Thanks for the answers.
As my zones are now delivering units when they should and triggering changes to behaviour and (not quite reliably) messages, I have decided to ignore red hexes until I run out of zones.
