According to this article http://bgr.com/2014/07/01/android-market-share-2014/ Android now has a 2:1 lead in market share and the gap is growing. Is Slitherine going to wake up the reality that this is where the tablet market is headed, and start producing for Android also/instead?
Ok, here come the piracy arguments. Yes, there are more Android pirates, but if there are substantially more users, there are also more paying customers.
The Apple fanbois are going to explode here, but open platforms always win in the end. PC ate the Mac, Android will eat iOS. And that means sell your Apple shares now. The visionary is dead, all Apple now has left is a manager, who will manage the decline of the brand. Google is still run by the guys with the vision.
The future is Android, whether you want to hear it or not. Did you see the cool thing Samsung and Occulus (?) VR did. In the world of gaming, which is where Slitherine works, that is huge.

Re: Android Crushes iOS
All I can tell you is the revenues for iOS versus Android for exactly the same game are 10 to 1 on iOS compared to Android. Market share is irrelevant if people only play free to play games on Android which is the current situation. There are also the piracy and discoverability issues on Android.
The cost of compiling and testing the Android version is hardly worth it even for games where unity makes it extremely simple. It may well change and if it does we'll be happy to produce more custom Android games but the reality is that these stats mean nothing to developers on the ground. We keep a close eye on the reality of the situation it but you cant believe headlines in the press like this.

Sorry to hear that Ian. I almost went to the evil Apple empire just so I could play your fine games on my tabet. We are so spoiled aren't we? Splashtop streamer kind of works, but it is not the same.

Re: Android Crushes iOS
If I could go back in time, I'd likely have spent the too much extra and bought an iPad.
But that's it basically. Anything Apple sells in hardware, the other guys are selling for 2/3s the price, and currently the hardware is as good as anything Apple is making.
I buy the hardware that does the job and has the best price. Currently the best hardware is NOT made by Apple. That's not opinion that's cold harsh reality. I'd get the same doodad my buddy recently bought, but he's rolling in cash and I am not
Sadly, I'm actually trying to cure myself of tech envy. I don't need BA or PC on my Android device, as I should be playing them on my damn laptop if I have a brain
That's the thing, tablets are not the fad everyone said they were, but the thing is sometimes a person simply doesn't NEED a tablet.
Most of my tablet indulgences are spent playing gem games in the bathroom. Otherwise I tend to carry it in my purse and to no real end as I rarely pull it out to use it as I rarely find myself in a position to need the thing. Con jobs are something a lot of of do to ourselves a bit too willingly
My 10inch Asus epad transformer has died on me, and to be honest, I wonder if it is just life trying to save me from myself to point. I'm not planning to replace it (well not that I can really).
I've seen a massive sum of games out there on Android and my god the schlock is incredible. Maybe it is TOO easy to make for Android. They make a really cool game icon graphic to advertise the game, and when you actually check it out, the only thing that was cool about it is the graphic that appears advertising it when you do a search. And most of the paid games are little better.
I'm fully aware that BA and PC are great games, as I have already played the normal windows releases. I've seen a few really nice Android releases, but often they are just retread releases of old games case in point the Final Fantasy releases (which they expect to get top dollar for too). So BA expecting top dollar is not some weird aberration. I don't know what John Tiller is doing to make his release so easy to put out for so little, but then again, his games have almost the same interface, which he hasn't really done much to alter. And frankly his releases are as pointless to play to a point as a shooter is on a tablet (in the case of the shooters the user really can't afford to expect to play it one handed), in the case of Tiller, his games are simply too graphically teeny tiny for a person to really consider them 'easy' to play on even a 10 inch screen with finger tips.
No I don't think Android has crushed iOS necessarily. And most of the people I know with tablets are still using iPad out of the belief they are magically better when in truth they merely cost more.
If you could give me the latest, I think I'd rather be holding the new Nvidia tablet. The hardware is likely superior to my laptop. And you can bet the hardware is superior to your iPad.... currently (nothing is forever though). But it uses Android. Well really, if I had 400 bucks fall in my lap right now, I'd pay off my credit card, declare victory and enjoy buying my winter boots a lot more so
I think I have bought too many doodads and too many ill thought out game purchases in general in the last while.
I'd likely sell my Nexus 7, and get over not having one if not for the fact they are bringing Hearthstone to Android. If it won't run Hearthstone, chances are I will consider selling it. I've gotten over the obsession with it being a way to read books.

Re: Android Crushes iOS
MrsWargamer,
I found OpenPanzer to work well, as well as Shawdowrun, and for the 3 rd time I have purchased it Baldur's Gate the new version.
I hope Slitherine sees the light. I hear Ian's arguments, but also think they if they spent a few buck marketing to the Android crowd they would be surprised. I think there is a strong correlation between PC and Android owners, and between Mac and iOS, and Slitherine has made a fine living selling PC games. I think their business analysis is flawed when they just look at immediate revenues. It has to be adjusted for brand recognition, etc. And if they cut their prices in half, they would sell 5 to 10 times more games on Android IMHO.

Re: Android Crushes iOS
Grrrr and phoey too. Well I was looking forward to playing Open Panzer, looks like a Panzer General derivative.
Not available to my device........ I think that might be what Ian has been getting at to some extend
And my Nexus 7 is the more powerful of my 2 tablets as well. I have no idea why the Nexus 7 will not run Open Panzer. I have the latest version of Android.
