FoG events at Historicon July 24-26, 2008

Post by babyshark »

Field of Glory at Historicon

NASAMW will run three tournaments using the Field of Glory (FoG) rules at Historicon. All three events will be run in 15mm. They will also be run in 25mm with the following caveat: if not enough players sign up for a particular event to allow a viable tournament the organizers reserve the right to cancel that event. 25mm events will be played on an 8x5 table using 40mm for a movement unit. All players, in both scales, are encouraged to contact Marc Crotteau at juvenileshark@yahoo.com in advance of Historicon to say which scale they are likely to play. This will help immensely with allocating available table space.

There will be prizes based on tournament results and for best presented army.

Thursday: Field of Glory Mini Open “Start with Starters”

This tournament, in particular, should be considered to be a learning event. Experienced players will be on hand to explain the game and answer rules questions from beginners. Three rounds starting at noon Thursday. Players may bring any starter army from any of the published FoG books. Games will last three hours.

1st round starts at 12:00pm
2nd round starts at 4:00pm
3rd round starts at 8:00pm

Friday: Field of Glory Theme tournament "The Classical Era"

Three rounds, starting at 9:00am. Players may bring any army from the Immortal Fire and Rise of Rome army list books. The 15mm event will be played at 800 points; the 25mm event will be played at 650 points.

1st round starts at 9:00am
2nd round starts at 2:00pm
3rd round starts at 7:00pm

Saturday: Field of Glory Open tournament

Three rounds, starting at 9:00am. Players may bring any army from any of the published FoG army list books. The 15mm event will be played at 800 points; the 25mm event will be played at 650 points.

1st round starts at 9:00am
2nd round starts at 2:00pm
3rd round starts at 7:00pm

I plan on attending Historicon for the first time and would love to play. How do I go about this? Do I need to sign up for it at Historicon? Do I sign up with you? Or do I just show up with an army and play?

Here's how it works. When you get to the convention you come to the NASAMW area (same room as the flea market; can't think of its name right now) and sign up for whichever tournament(s) you are want to play in. NASAMW charges a $5 fee to cover the cost of trophies, etc. Bring your army, and army list with order of march. Bring a groundcloth and terrain if you can (not mandatory, but it sure helps.)

I will appreciate it if you arrive approx. 15 minutes before each tournament you are in so that I can get everything organized for a timely start.

Does that tell you what you need to know?

The Lampeter Room. When you enter the front door of the Lancaster Host, turn left.

In addition to the tournaments, will there be any demos for interested parties who have never played the game?

I'm glad you asked. Jeff Fletcher will be running a demo game on Thursday. Specific details will be announced shortly.

I'm afraid I will only be around on Saturday and Sunday. Should I look for the tourney area and try the osmosis routine?

That's fine; come on down! We are all still relative newbies, considering that the rules were only published earlier this year. There have only been a few tournaments so far, and it is likely that there will be other inexperienced players in attendance. Expect everyone to make a few forehead-slapping mistakes. I can say that--based on my experience running the tournament at Cold Wars--the rules mechanics are very easy to pick up. By the third round at Cold Wars all the games were running smoothly.

Bring your toy soldiers out to play.

The best way to learn is to play. So come on in and learn.

Jeff Fletcher here

Haven't been paying attention to this forum like I should

Start time is at 12 noon on Thursday in the "Business Center."

It is the same game as the link shows. I'm aware that the link says nothing about Historicon

It's a fun one, at least for me to run. Been very close both times that I've run it and Robert with his predominantly Welsh army is 2 and 0 (go figure) Probably due to the help of the "slightly" early longbows (Keep in mind that this is a scenario designed to show as much of the rules/troop types as possible with my current collection.)

If the game fills up and/or there is any interest, then I'll do the same or another game after dinner (time, space and adult beverage consumption permitting, that is.) Seriously tho, my mission is to get people interested in the game through showing it off. I am FoG's humble servant on Thursday at Historicon.

I'm going to be at HCon Fri-Sun, and will be cruising the FOG area all day Saturday to try learn the game. I do not have an army based for FOG, however. The closest I can get is a WAB 28mm Carthaginian army. I have ordered bases from Litko to rebase but they will not arrive unitl after the con.

Anyone care to give me a demo game during/after the tourney? I am happy to have a tourney judge/organizer play a start/stop game with me while they perform their duties if they are able to do so.

Please PM me if that could work...

Thanks,

Brian

Well walk up and we will find someone to teach you. Or worse case we will plant you next to a table and teach as we are playing.
