Hi guys,
I can't seem to get decisive victories. I got the game through Steam on Tuesday. I've played through Kiev. I got one DV, one (Greece) loss and the rest marginal victories. It seems I'm slowed down by a lot of reinforcing depleted units and supply time. So I'm not understanding how you guys get DV's all through the 39-45 campaign.
Questions:
1) I don't understand the difference between the unit list and the reinforcement list. After placing my units (and all the white hexes are gone), there are other units not able to be placed on the board. When you click on the reinforcement tab, they show up on the right. But if I'm not able to place them at all during the game, why show them? If these are labeled "reinforcements, shouldn't I be able to use them at any time during a scenario?
2) At set up before the scenarios start, the places I can put my units are 'white' hexes. Before I started the Kiev scenario, I placed what I thought I'd need and had 4-5 white hexes left. But when I put an 88 FlaK unit in one of them, they all disappeared. Why is that?
Thanks in advance
Barbosa

1- unit list shows both deployed and 'reserve' units. reinforcement list only shows 'reserves'. You can only have certain amounts of units in play in each scenario, and cannot deploy more as reinforcements.barbosa003 wrote:Hi guys,

2 - in Kiev you can only deploy something like 2/3 of your army. The hexes disappeared because you had the limit of units.
Also, have you considered lowering the difficulty (if you are on Colonel, go to Lieutenant.)?

Hello barbosa003, often you cannot deploy all your units, because the scenario has a fixed limit and your core (all your units together) is bigger. But if one of your units dies during the scenario you can deploy one from your reserves to take its place. Of course it can only be deployed on the original deployment hexes, but this is why the reserves are accesible during scenarios.barbosa003 wrote:1) I don't understand the difference between the unit list and the reinforcement list. This is because you have reached the maximum number of units that the scenario allows. You can track how many units can be deployed if you look at the top of the unit list. It should say 'Units to deploy: x/y' and underneath 'Units in reserve: z'2) At set up before the scenarios start, the places I can put my units are 'white' hexes. x is the number of regular units that you can deploy (watch it go down as you place units) and y is the number of SE units available. The amount in reserve (y) is simply your total number of units minus the ones you have deployed, so you can check if you have enough units to fill all the deployment slots.

There you go! Idea: as a reward give the successful DV commander a new slot when an off-the-beaten-path objective is captured and/or allow a core unit to arrive as an in game reinforcement. Or add an extra slot for the next battle only, etc. Add it as a patch to DLCs encouraging players to replay them through without changing play balance much. Maybe limit to general or FM difficulty?
What a perfect antidote to those nasty enemy spammings or scripted surprises.

Now, I get it! There may be more 'white' hexes than units I have, so when I put out the allowed last unit, the rest all go away.

On the other side of the problem, if there are not enough deployment hexes (or more likely not enough hexes where you want to deploy) you can deploy the extra units during the game. There is at least one scenario in Afrika Korps where there are very limited air deployment slots, and quite a few slots where you might want to see what is nearby before committing where knowing this is very handy. If you lose a core unit and want to bring on a unit from your reserve, they will use the deployment hexes.
In the main game, where time is tight, it can be a bit risky to take an extra turn or two to get all your troops on the ground, but it's useful to know you can do this.
