Bug - Gemini Unmanned Orbital Flight Test

Post by Drewpan »

Hi Guys,

I got more than I bargained for when I did the Unmanned Orbital Flight Test when the actual Mission
Flown was a Lunar Free Return. I was awarded the Uncrewed Orbital Goal, but I actually went TLI and
Slingshot back to Earth.

Save File attached.

Cheers!

Hello Andrew,

That's expected behaviour, yes. If you manage to achieve a mission that involved a manned orbital flight at some point, you'll get the 'Unmanned orbital flight test' goal as well. We do this because we want to model the fact that if you are capable enough of performing a manned orbital mission, you should be capable of performing an unmanned orbital mission too. Notice that this also prevents the game from applying a penalization for unachieved suborbital flights in later missions.

Hi Guys,

I think you may have misunderstood. The Mission I set was the Mission I was awarded Goal wise, but the Mission it
actually did was a mission from higher up the ladder, and it DIDN'T award me the higher Goals.

I understand the higher parameter mission ticks the lower box, but I actually TOLD it to do a simple unmanned EARTH
orbital flight test. What it DID was orbit the Earth THEN launched itself into an unmanned Slingshot Lunar Return flight.
The Lunar slingshot flight was the NEXT mission to be flown, but I was awarded the Mission Goals for the mission I set.

In effect what happened was I launched an unmanned Capsule into Earth orbit that somehow found enough Delta-V to
launch itself without me telling it into a TLI that Slingshot back to Earth. Then even though it went around the moon
and returned, everyone THOUGHT it was the original mission.

So that is NOT expected behaviour.

Cheers!

Hello Andrew,

Yes, sorry for the misunderstanding. I've checked your savefile on this end and, luckily, the problem was a lot simpler: there was a glitch in the strings file from that program. The mission you scheduled was effectively an 'Uncrewed lunar flyby test' instead of an 'Uncrewed orbital flight test', that's why you saw the spacecraft going around the Moon.

It's fixed now, you'll get this in the next patch. Thanks for reporting it.
