Battlegroup depth

Post by AgentBrown »

Considering getting FoG but have a question first. What is the average and maximum depth of a battlegroup?
I ask as the visual aspect of a game is important to me and having a line of bases one figure deep doesn't really look the part. It's fine when using 6mm and 10mm figures as I have all mine based two deep and a single line lof bases looks OK but as I'm considering moving up to 25/28mm you can see my problem.
So, any restrictions or advantages with BGs two or more bases deep?
Cheers

Most battlegroups fight two bases deep, pikes four bases deep. A few, such as elephants, chariots, and knights fight one base deep. However, it is not uncommon to see people running all sorts of battlegroups deeper than that, in order to give flexibility in case of losses from combat.

Maximum depth is whatever you want it to be; essentially a column.
