Immortal Fire - what armies?

Post by OrkConvert »

I saw the list of armies for Immortal Fire coming out soon: http://fieldofglory.com/catalogue/12.html

I'm planning a Medieval French starter army for Storm of Arrows...but I've always been intrigued by the ancient Greeks, Alexander, the Successors period, etc.

What armies are going to be most popular for this? Alexander? It seems like you could build an Alexander/Macedonian army and then use part of it easily for Successors. Or am I far off on that?

There are a lot of similarities between the successor armies and Alexanders army, the Helenistic greeks are also similar.

I think Alexandrian Macedonian, Classical Greek and Graeco-Bactrian lists are going to be popular.

The Persians look good, Syracusan has lots of variety, Lydians will be a surprise packet I reckon while the Thracians are looking good too. Not many I don't like the look of actually. TBH under FOG I believe almost any army can win - I can't make that statement about many other systems.

I playtested a beautiful Early Achaemenid Persians. I´m evolving my troops toward a Later Achaemenid Persians, which I´m willing to play. Finally, I think next year I´ll start a classical indian. ¡I need this book! BtW, does anyone know if there are changes from beta test lists to their final edition in Immortal Fire?

In general the beta lists are close to the final ones but there are some which have changed significantly. I don't think any of the Immortal fire lists have changed that much.

i have one! the early successor list is nice (2 BG galatians, and a good range.

i'm thinking the thracians are big winners, loads of light horse, greek mercenary allies for the heavy foot.

graeco-bactrian not so bad, *lots* of undrilled lancers or cataphracts.
