MP Beta Screenshots

Two random screenshots from recent 2 vs AI cooperative multiplayer games. One going pretty well, the other not so much

Continuation of the game in the second screenshot (should do some AARs soon :) ):

After the situation looked stabilised in both west (Erik's side) and east (my side) and we knocked out several Jap tanks I took the opportunity to break out and attack the enemy artillery (the scorched wreck at the top middle of the screenshot below). But then the next Jap wave spawned on the flanks and completely overran my now scattered defenses in the eastern city.

That position is now clearly lost, so all I can try to do is save as many units as possible. Crossing the river to the south/south-west would just get my units killed so I'm trying to go across the undefended bridge in the north. It basically leads me directly into the flank of the western attack force. In the best case we can cut off that whole flank from supply and clear it up, in the worse case I get destroyed completely but at least I will take some pressure of Erik's units (green) :)

On August 6, 15:25pm the OoB:P AI became self-aware and beat its creators in MP... Either that or one bad general is better than two good ones working together. :D

What are those plank borders? Is that a way to hide the usually black area outside the scenario map or is it part of the interface? Btw, I like how you`ve set up that forest in the middle of the map that`s cut by two rivers. Having spent alot of time trying to create interesting/different forest shapes in PzC scenarios I do appreciate terrain features.

The planks should be the table on which the map you are playing on is placed. Fits nice with the 2d maps, looks a bit strange with the 3d one. :)

If that`s what the planks are, there`s a need for some visual effects to transmit that impression. As I see it in the shots above (maybe they don`t show the full screen) it doesn`t appear that the map is sitting on a table, but rather that you`re looking through a hatch on a wooden floor at the action bellow (sorta like from a bomber :D ). Maybe the edges of the map itself could be made to have depth and reflect a shadow on the "table" or, ideally in my opinion, the objects on the map could cast a shadow on the table too (when they are close enough to the edge).

Gents:

I ask that you stop referencing the Japanese as "Japs."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap

I have a sister-in-law who is Japanese... and other relatives who are Japanese-Americans. Personally, I find this term to be offensive.... :(

Thanks.

It's by no means ment offensively. I didn't even know it was (not a native english speaker). I just use it as an abbreviations, same with a lot of other countries like "US" instead of "Americans" or "Brits" instead of "British".

Good to know that it has a negative connotation though, I wasn't aware of that.

There was earlier mention of being able to switch between a 3D version and a 2D "board game" version. Do you have any images available for the 2D "board game" style from your Beta testing to share? Just curious if they will look similar to Panzer Corps or Pacific General? The 3D images look pretty cool, by the way!

Some work-in-progress screenshots of unit counters and boardgame style were posted a while back here:

We're still focusing on the animated 3D visuals at the moment though, so can not yet share an update on the above.

Can't really comment on future themes, simply cos nothing has been decided yet. But both of them sound interesting to do (as well as a ton of other themes/periods)

Not sure how interesting this is for the "outside world", but we've recently unlocked the scenario editor in the latest beta version. So aside from the remaining incompleted scenarios, the beta is now more or less feature complete.

The current small group of testers has been excellent so we haven't been adding new ones for a few weeks now, but next week should include another batch of new invites.
