Tadaa! Britcon 2014 R&R plus Nemesis Challenge Matches

Post by kevinj »

Since the original Britcon thread is over 11 pages long I thought it would be easier to start a new one. Here are the runners and Riders for next week:

Image

Some surprise lists there, and some which are no surprise at all. Some people found some interesting challenges for checking! Any club errors etc, please let me know and I'll fix it.

Here are the agreed Nemesis Challenge matches. If you've agreed one and somehow missed the instruction to let me know, please rectify that asap.

Image

Those with agreed challenge games can start when they like on Friday and must finish by midnight along with everyone else. Everyone else will face the usual random lottery based on who's arrived when you put your name in.

Can't blame the army selection this year with all those other samurai armies out there.. :(

Richard: Gone to the dark side with a European army? :)

Lurkio: West Sudanese.. Looking forward to seeing the real thing from the blog.

Ray: see you for game 3 at the lower end of the table. Sorry, but urban bunny is already booked in for game 2 as he is playing paddy :)

All you mounted heavy lists... Enjoy playing Charles Swiss :)

Right... Better get back onto the painting table: only managed 1 unit of mounted yesterday... Still 7 BGs To go... And three of them need a bit of green stuff conversion....

Well what a range of armies

Most popular Japanese with 4, followed by 3 Later TYW Germans & TYW French with 3 though trust me mine is very different from Bens unless he has changed his playing style, 2 Early TYW Swedes & 2 Anglo Dutch & 2 Sudanese with the rest being singles, interestingly no army from Clash of Empires normally it Trade and Treachery but have a couple from there this year

anyway see you all next week

All of the top 9 ranked UK players are there (Tim and Kevin as Organisers). If you included the sandbagging John Monroe we would have all 10. 13 of the top 20 ranked UK players present, plus the 2 who ducked out to organise the event. A VERY strong field.

I hope learn a lot especially watching the other samurai players..

I'm looking forward any mayhem Charles causes with his "retro" Swiss... :)

Certainly some eye opening lists. Like Hunter, I am there as a lowly ranked player who is happy to learn from the galaxy of higher ranked super stars above me who will contest the trophy. We Scots know our place.

I think Micks t&t list beats my scot Conventeur army of last year, for the off the wall surprise...

The sudanese will hopefully keep those radical LOAs in place...

Nigel, just spent half an hour looking at the Henrician English and think it could be a good army. The Japanese will probably fancy their chances but against shot type armies and even the Sudanese/Tuaregs might not fancy those massed longbows.

3 Cities of Gold
2 Trade & Treachery

No Clash of Empires, knew I should have bought me tatars

Alastair, I am sure the army you picked is good enough that it will not end up in Tatars (tatters) by the end of the competition.
Mind you, Alastair with infantry- whatever next!!

It might be a cunning plan to make people move away from all mounted.. Then jump back again hehe :)

Nigel

Hunter is truely the lowest of the low - however you rank above him because you lose more frequently than Hunter does!

Hunter

Given that there are 3 unranked players in the draw I think you will have to wait until after Britcon to be confirmed as the lowest of the low. From next year it will not matter as you will have to be the lowest of the low in the SHGS rankings.

I am confused by the reference to me being "sandbagging". The meaning has been lost in the border crossing and would appreciate some clarification. It is always useful to know if one is being praised or insulted before administering a Glasgow Kiss in response.
Any way time for the Britcon predictions. Despite his unsavoury self denigration, I think Mr Hunter Hope fair fancies himself this year and as admitted by himself he has been practicing with his selected army list for months now honing it to perfection. I see his endless armoured mounted legions surging to victory especially against the warrior type armies who will be fair cacking themselves at his approach.
It will be up to the Savoyard defenders of justice and truth to close ranks in the first game nemesis challenge to put this spawn of the devil in his place lest all mankind be put at peril.

John

It is a comment from an Englishman to a Jock. You can assume you are being insulted as the default position. If not, please rest assured we will flag up the comment as not being intended to be an insult. (Can't make a promise that such cannot be construde to have a less than flattering meaning in translation...)

Sandbagging - not sure of the derivation - but it means making a lower score or final position than one really should have achieved to either gain a higher handicap or to lull your opponents into a false sense of security. Originally from Billiards Hustlers.

As expected silken words from an Englishmen while has his other hand in your pocket.
Surely you are not suggesting the official rankings do not provide an accurate picture of ability and achievements. I can only appear at a level in the rankings where the English overlords allow me to be.
