How important is base depth

I am looking at getting my 25mm figures ready for a few games and may need to do some rebasing.

I can see that the basing has been taken from DBM, but it does make conciliatory noises about base depth not being so important. Also, looking at the rules base depth looks less critical than DBM.

Although, I will probably play most games at our club, I also like the idea of going to the odd tournement like Britcon to get some experience from other players. If my base depths or figures per base are a bit different am I likely to get a poor reception?

My first problem is with HI. Some I have based 30mm deep - which I think looks better. Some I have based 20mm deep as per DBM.

What problems might this throw up with the rules?

I also have large 25mm medieval armies based on 40mm x 40mm. Do you think this will work?

As you will see from a number of other threads I don't think you'll have any problem with deeper bases of the order you are talking about.

However, I can't see that the 40x40 bases are going to work in a game where the 60mm frontage is important

I would personaly have no problem playing against an army that was a bases slightly to deep because it looked better like that. If however, in the same army some HI was 30mm deep and some 20mm that may be more confusing, as it would be to easy to confuse the troops on deeper bases as MI. The exact depth is not so important but do think it is fair to ask for internal consistency in the same army.

Thanks for your comments on 40mm frontage.

I assumed that since using 1" = 1MU is OK for 25mm then using 15mm fromtage would be OK aswell.

I have to accept that the look and base depth would be incompatible with 15mm.
I was more thinking of testing the rules for Medieval using Armies with similar square bases.

Oh, I misunderstood what you were on about with 40x40 - possibly because 1"=1MU is the rules scale for 25mm as well, its just that some players are using 40mm=1MU as they prefer it.

Well if all the figures for both sides are so based I'm sure it'll be OK - however, I don't think you'd get many people wanting to have 25mm Vs 15mm games even if they're all on 40mm frontage bases
