Cold War mod?

Post by ExiledZebra »

Has there ever been a cold war mod released? It would be interesting to see one if none have been made yet. (I'd love to do it if I had any knowledge how to properly mod a game >_< )

There was another cold war mod in the making here (just look somewhere in the older scn forum pages), but unfortunately it seems it died.

He's never going to release it.

There was another guy, NickGen, working on a Cold War mod, but has also abandoned it.

Panzer Corps is actual pretty easy to mod. If you have the free time anything is possible.

If you have the free time
That, I think, is THE limitation for any modder.

Well I am on summer vacation + don't have a job atm, so I'd have all the free time. Just would need to know how to mod...

Look at nikivdd's guides and the official editor manual. Those are the best places to start. If you don't get the answers you want, PM me or leave a question on the forum.

Hmmm I might give it a shot... not sure If I`ll have the patience to try and figure out pretty much everything needed in order to mod since it seems like a massive undertaking (I`m probably blowing it out of proportion but as someone who`s never modded anything ever it seems pretty challenging).

My first question is where should I start?

Should I focus on working on maps or new units that will be included?

Maps are a lot easier, so I'd do those first.

I know it's been a while but I finally feel like putting some effort into this, I'll start working on the maps atm although not really sure how I'm going to make the campaign. I was thinking making at first NATO's campaign and then followed by Warsaw pact. Might even include a Chinese vs. Jap campaign as well. But before all of that can occur I need to teach myself how to make all of this so don't expect content to come soon.

This sounds good! Just read a alternate fiction story about USSR attacking soon after WW2 ended, was pretty interesting. Modern setting would be cooler though, maybe the 70`s or 80`s.

I'd actually forgotten about this, but I think that it will be a good thing to make out of Rearmament, considering I have the graphics ready.

However, the one annoying thing with WotW 1 was that no matter who you played as, it was too easy. So the new one will be a campaign, which I will try to get out around Q1 2015 (but maybe earlier - however the Mongols need to be done as well).

That would be very welcome I`m sure. Not sure how you guys balance these scenarios and campaigns, with different playing styles, prestige ect...
it will be nice to play something post WW2 though. The only commercial games seem to be some form of RTS. Watched a video of Wargame: Airland Battle, beautiful graphics, but who could see them when you are a mile up in the sky throwing tiny icons at other tiny icons?
Not sure why they don`t offer a Combat Mission type turn system as an option; Let me plan my moves, hit the button, then go back after 60 secs and zoom in to watch what happened. They may even get some sales to turn based gamers who wouldn`t touch a RTS wargame. Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening, and modding for the rest of us computer mortals.
