Very New Player, Interested in Solo & PC

Post by Mazdaran »

I am very new to Field of Glory. I have the Ancients & Medieval rulebook, as well as several of the army books. I became interested in Field of Glory initially because I wanted something with a good deal of detail and versatility; I really like how the battle groups are broken down and dealt with (as far as I can tell, not having played).

I would like to play solo games, as well as referee campaigns with friends of mine (probably alongside a RuneQuest 6 game), and I was wondering what sort of resources you folks would recommend for doing solo battles? Likewise, I am interested in playing on the PC, with something like Vassal, because I don't really have any interest in owning/collecting/painting figurines. I know FoG has a video-game, but I'm really just looking to play it like a tabletop on my PC, not to have the PC deal with the mechanics.

Are there any videos, FAQs, etc. you'd recommend as most useful for a starting player?

first question is, where are you as there could be a club near you that you could watch and get up to speed fast with.

There was someone who posted the ability to print out figures from a printer to use as markers instead of miniatures.
There is a ton of stuff on maxaxeman dot com
He is very sarcastic go look at his battle reports. That is sort of dropping you in the deep end, but he doesn't do much rule explaining more battle reporting.

I live in Washington state, very near to Vancouver (Battleground).

I have considered printing out some tokens, because I would like to create a set of based armies for the later Roman Empire ('Byzantine') as well as the various Iranic peoples to their north and east for DBA 2.2+ anyway.
