Sigh, zero post count opponents

Post by MrsWargamer »

Throwing out this challenge to any and all.

Come meet me in a game, any map, I can play them all, I have all the expansions.

But if you want to offer me a game, at least offer to let me know why you want to take a pass on any game underway.

I just played a map I haven't played for a while, but I've played it before. It's one of the core maps so hardly new. I was doing ok, I lost a few units, but yeah, I was kicking butt and taking names so to speak. I had half the objectives they had the other half, it was still anyone's game. But I was certainly not doing bad.

I get back in from a walk after being out for a few hours, and figure, hey play another turn or more. Load up the game and what? no turns? They I see the game is completed. What? we had done like 2 turns.

So I figure I will just ask the person if there was a problem. After browsing the member list, I find the person has never posted to the forums, there is no reason to assume the person would even respond if I sent a message. They might have just made the account to make it possible to play the game in multi player.

Which is sad.

Come on boys, give me a challenge and at least stick around long enough to say if you want to do a restart or something. I've been there, seen opening moves that were horrible. Not the end of the world.
Or is it you can't hack being trashed by an old woman?

I can play any day of the week, they're all the same to me. It's been Saturday a long time now. I can manage 10 games at once if you want an intense afternoon of total action. It's not like we need to do just one map at a time waiting on turns. I don't take forever to process a turn, it's not like I need to agonize over every unit moved into perfect locations. I can cycle through 10 different games in a surprisingly fast span of time.

I will be awaiting some interest from you guys. I check the forums often enough. Its the end of the day currently, but tomorrow is another day. It only takes a moment to set up some challenges eh. It's no fun accepting a match, and then the other person balks if their game isn't perfection personified. I've done beta work for the series, but I still only win if lucky half the time. You can assume you will lose half the time too. I play either side, I don't have Tiger envy they are easy to kill. I'm actually fond of 25 pdrs and dudes with mortars.

It is 6 and I am going to go get my dinner. It would be cool if I had some sort of happening before the day is over.

Send a PM with a game(s) name(s), and a password and we are good to go. Pick anything you wish either side. I can handle more than one game too, I am currently fielding a couple of opponents in 3 maps. I can handle more :)

I play on average a round of turns often every few hours (or as often as I am able to check, see new turns have arrived, and send responses). Most people have schedules of course and not as much free time as me :)

I totally agree but sadly it's a so frequent situation.
And even worse, those who accept you a challenge and doesn't play even a single turn...
Or those who plays one turn every 6 or 7 days.
Someone says few days ago that a "considerate" player should play at least one turn per day.
It's a pitty there were these kind of players!

This is inevitable, when I release a new scenario I open matches and accept any player, I found often players that did not answer a turn for 10 o more days, others that surrender at the second turn.
I keep a list of opponents and their behavior, this is not a solution but will prevent me pick a game with someone.
Maybe a ranking (not to see who is better but who is serious)....

There is an option of for Claiming a game is abandoned, I use it when I game did not go for more than 10-15 days.

Hey enric I've never seen your challenges or I'd give you a game zavrevic I should be playing you in the tourney soon I also have a list of players! I'll always accept a challenge from a newbie But there are some proper time wasters on here that's why it's important to keep in contact with regular players

Wise idea Enric (the name list).

I just surrendered a match I had going, I was being totally owned :) But, I gave a response, a congrats to my opponent and a request for a fresh match. I didn't just not play any more.

I am also playing in some other matches, and I am doing ok in them. I hope my opponents are equally gracious of course.

I don't mind a variety of paces, it's more important to know the expected pace than any specific level of speed. Some days I have more housework than others :)

I think going a week, and no message at all about conditions is grounds for deleting a game as abandoned though. We are all members of this forum regardless of whether we use it for chatting on. There is no excuse for not informing your opponent of an interruption in pace.

Hello to all,

I would like to try out a multiplayer game. I have never played one before now and don't really know how the system works. I have all the expansions and have played through all. It doesn't really matter to me which side. Please help to get me educated on this.

On a side note does anyone know how to reset the campaigns after you have already played through them? If I try to start a campaign it automatically takes me to the last scenario. If I manually back up to the beginning scenario, when I finish it the game again takes me to the last scenario.

Since it seems there are no more new expansions on the way for BA1 I need to get my BA fix in some other way!

Thanks for any help you can give,

Jeff

You can delete the campaign progress by removing the corresponding .DAT file in My Documents/My Games/BBCBA/SAVES

Jeff, I have Clash of Armour Redux waiting for you if you wish. It's a fairly basic map. I'll PM you a password to type in if you are interested. You are the Axis.

As for probable causes of game-quitters, Whom I find equally disappointing, I venture this. Perhaps they are casual iPad'ers.
There are a lot of those people who I am sure own an iPad. I give them credit for venturing out of Farmville long enough to try a truly enriching game like this one.
But I suspect they are "beyond casual" players, who can't offer even the commitment of finishing a game they started. SQUIRREL!!

I also started a game with Mrs. W and it now sits in limbo. Disappointing especially after her post starting this thread.....

My current matches are all coming to a close progressively. Been a few matches I have seriously dropped the ball on :) A few I had not played yet (and it showed hehe).

I want to thank to guys that stepped up and offered the games. Apologies if I was a bit tardy some days.

But the point of my starting the thread was this, those in the community, not on the forums, and potentially unaware of the option to communicate through here, might not be able to communicate the occasional slow down, or reason for absence. And we gamers might not always respond as generously. Yesterday to just give one example, I had a migraine attack. Fortunately not one of the nastier ones. Often they leave me totally gone for 48 hours minimum. Or your kid could be sick and presto gone for 3 days because the last thing you have time for is playing out a turn in a game. Or so many other ordinary and totally fair reasons.

But if no one is ever told, how does anyone know?
Alas the matches allow messages only at the tail end of a turn.
So basically it is better done here. But, I looked for one adversary name here, and there was no sign the person had ever been present other than to activate the account.
Maybe that is the failing of too many of our online games, too little contact before or after a game.

I play Hearthstone for instance. You play a person and then you are gone, and during the game there is nothing to keep you from just quitting and conceding the match.
In my youth though, games required you were actually with the person. I suppose I am just used to more interaction :)

I am not currently hunting down new matches. I'm busy trying to find funds for BA2, because I am sure it will be a big splash for the community. I have not jumped in just yet. Even though early access is a better price. Just want to do it from a more polished stand point this time I guess.
