Troop Quality Rerolls

Post by imanfasil »

This might be a case of succumbing to old-age or blindness, but where exactly does it specify that TroopQuality allows rerolls in Imact/Melee/Shooting? This was my second and biggest frustration trying to find something in the rules. I was trying to find out if quality mattered in shooting, and the only reference I could find was under Quality Rerolls "that they were allowed when a section said that they were allowed". The only section where I saw this spiked out was under CMTs, and it was expressly not permitted in DeathRolls. Under effect of a General I found that they enhanced rerolls only for melee to hit rolls...(implying quality works there), but for the rest... no clue.

I think it would have been very nice since there is a section on Quality rerolls and how they work to just bullet point the 3-4 types of rolls they work with right there and have it all in one place.

I'm a big fan of the system from my two reads through the rules and two games played: both using the Roman and Carthaginian starter armies in 15mm. The rules look beautiful and seem really well structured, but when I go to look for something it seems like the organization (what rules are grouped where and the ordering) isn't intuitive to me. Love the full-color, and all the examples.

Thanks,
imanfasil

It mentions that in a couple of places. A good one is at the top of each of the tables that explain modifiers and POA in parenthesis it says if quality re-rolls apply.

It is a convenient place to have that, on top of each chart, good idea from the editors !!

In my book the only chart with that statement in the title bar is the one for Cohesion tests. Nothing in the table of POAs and nothing in the table on what dice are to be used. They are listed towards the bottom of the table that shows how many dice are received (above the target # table), but no mention is made of what types of rolls they apply to (shooting, melee, impact, etc)... the fact that they applied to all forms of hand to hand seemed pretty clear from other rules and inferences, but just finally decided: "I guess they do apply to shooting".

Page 94 - table at bottom right of the page.

Page 95 - table at top left of the page.

Just above each table it says "(Quality re-rolls apply)"

I see, thanks.

Although if you are going to nicely put the charts in the back of the book in one place, who is going to look at the ones in the book!

Contrary to the view that FOG "has no QRS", the charts at the back of the book are the QRS. They are only a reminder and not intended to be a substitute for reading the full rules.
