flank marching

If an ally general has more than 3 bgs, can he still flank march or is the maximum still 3 bgs?

Page 185, 3rd bp

"An allied commander... must take his whole contingent."
So no you can't flank march with an ally that has more than 3 BGs.

Are we all agreed that the bullet saying a max of 3 BGs trumps the one saying saying an allied commander must flank march with all his BGs? I think this is reight.

No, it's both. i.e. if you ever want to flank march with an ally, you have to design your army accordingly.

You can't leave any ally behind 'on table'. You can only outflank with a max of three. So an Ally of 4 can't comply with both, so can't outflank.
