Can a commander join a BG of Elephants ?

Can a commander join a BG of Elephants ?

Just planning my invasion of rome.

So can a commander join a BG of hefalumps ?

Never done it, but as far as I am aware he can join and would increase the equivalent quality of the elephants in hand to hand combat.

A little difficult to justify his motivating the elephants, but I believe he can do it :)

Yes they can.

One of the reasons that elephants ended up restricted to BGs of 2 bases was that in one of the early playtest events Bruce turned up with a tiny Ghaznavid army (in terms of BGs) but two of his BGs were of 4 elephants each both with an attached TC. They stomped all before them until our massed Visigoth and Dacian light foot archers took one apart and the other one got enveloped by foot warriors.

It is possible to put a general with a pair of elephants but it is not a brilliant return on investment.
