Who, what, how?

Post by GaryChildress »

I haven't tried it in game, however, I notice in the editor that just about anything can be air transported by glider. Did the designers go off the deep end one night? First off, there is no way a Maus, King Tiger, or even a PZ III could be carried in any kind of aircraft of the second world war, not even the Me 232. Second individual units in PC must invariably represent larger formations in the abstract. There is no way a Panzer division, regiment or battalion could have been ferried by airlift anywhere at the time. The Germans could barely keep Stalingrad undersupplied by air. :?:

Whenever i've tried to transport units by air it only seems to let me transport infantry? I recently tried with towed artillery and a panzerflam, but it didnt give me the option.... just infantry had that option when they were standing on the airport hex.

Perhaps the heavy tanks are transported by eagles. Even a small eagle can carry a mouse...

The scenario designers had the Gigant transport in mind, and you can use it in certain scenarios to transport tank units around. I believe one of the early 42-43 West scenarios in particular. Historically it was designed to carry up to a Panzer MkIV and heavy equipment for Sea Lion but was given weaker engines due to war restrictions.

The earlier air transports (Ju52) will only take units without transport though you usually get asked if you want to abandon the truck when selecting air transport. I'm pretty sure you have to wait for the Gigant to become available to transport any type of vehicle.

If there's no transport available, you won't be allowed an option - if you hover the cursor over the transport button it should show what (if anything) is available.

You're right of course, I felt this particularly in one of the AK scenarios, where you could airlift your Tigers over the Caucasus. I really like the additions of air TP and gliders, but this one felt a bit over the top. Then again, maybe it's just me...otoh for SP one could always mod equipment so that only light or medium stuff can get air TP-ed.

Gary, you are correct. I fixed the equipment file in the Total Realism Mod.
