Why do you force us to use IOS6?!

In Frontline: Road to Moscow, players take command of the German army through some of the most famous battles of World War II, leading the mighty Wehrmacht on towards Moscow.

Why do you force us to use IOS6?!

Post by mirceglavni »

Version 1.0 of Frontline required at least iOS 5.1, and it ran perfectly fine. Now, the update to 1.01 suddenly required iOS 6. Why? I do not want to upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS6, just to get the feeling that I should buy a newer paddle, because this one feels to sluggish.
Why are you doing this kind of things?

Hey there,

We force you to use IOS6 because this game does not run on IPhone3GS. So we banned IOS5 because lots of devices running on IOS5 cannot run the game.

Thats the reason why developers normally have version for the iphone and the ipad. Who would like to play such a game on a tiny iphone screen anyway?
If I knew the update would render my purchase worthless, I wouldn't have bought this game.

Sorry about this but it is the only way Apple allow us to prevent people who should not purchase the game downloading it.

For some reason there is no way we can select the hardware we support, we can only select the software. It is pretty frustrating but there is nothing we can do unfortunately :(

Thanks for the answer IainMcNeil, but I cannot understand the first sentence: "but it is the only way Apple allow us to prevent people who should not purchase the game downloading it".
I understand that if an app uses some features only available in iOS 6 or 7, it cannot be used under an earlier version of the operating system. But this game was initially released for iOS 5.1, and only after the update to 1.01 it requires iOS 6.
My biggest worry is that this is a trend for the future: can we expect something similar to happen with Panzer Corps with the next update?

It's a bit confusing so I'll try and explain. The issue is not really OS related. The issue is that the game does not run on 3GS and iPad1 and was never intended to. However Apple give you no way to limit the devices you support, only the operating systems. The only way we can prevent 3GS and iPad1 from buying the game is to require iOS6, which 3GS and iPad1 cannot install. The only way we can prevent 3GS and iPad1 users from buying the game is to require an OS they cannot install. This is just how Apple works. It would be nice if we could specify the devices we support but that's not how it works.

This should have been the way it was setup from day 1 but it was a bug. There was no plan to update the required iOS version after release, it was just a mistake. We know its a real pain and we never intended it but it is the only way to prevent people buying it that cannot run the game. We apologize for any inconvenience.

It is of course your call, but I found iOS 7 to be much snappier and efficient than 6, so it might be worth just upgrading to 7. Obviously you can check out online information to make your decision, but just giving you my experience.

Cheers
