Frequent Crashes

I am running win 7, 3.0 GS version and my game often crashes especially when I have a lot of units to have to move during a turn. It crashes straight to the desktop and has happened to me over 20 times. Quite irritating and it's not something I'm unfamiliar with. Is there any setting that I need to get just right for this game to be stable on my platform or has anyone else experienced this?

Are you playing against the AI?

Do you have the sounds and music turned off?

Just the music turned of and the crashes happen primarily hotseat or PBEM.

P.S. Turned off the Sound Effects altogether so far since that day I have no had 1 single crash. If that changes I will report back. : )
