There is a copy of Caesars "The Gallic War" on CD

Post by venividivici »

Anyone else notice this? I was just scanning through the installed files and found the word file Gallic War in the Data folder. I opened it up out of interest and found it is a full copy of the translation of Caesars The Gallic War, all 172 pages! While I do have the printed Penguin Classic edition it is useful to have this copy to look through also. Some great battle descriptions in there including Alesia. I also like the account of the sea battles and hillfort capture whilst fighting the Veneti in modern day Brittany. Worth a read if you haven't read this before and thanks to the devs for including it.

That is so cool. With the appendix it goes to 200 pages.
Nice!
Thank you Slitherine.

I find text on the net.
Also I've read in Japanese, many years ago, It's interesting to read again in English.
Maybe, I can find civil war and Alexsandria campaign somewhere else.

Hmm, I am really longing to buy one at the shop nearby.

"Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres..." Ack ! And I thought I had put my high school Latin firmly behind me. No, no, no, I do not want to read this AGAIN ! I wonder if Caesar realized his words would be used to torture schoolchildren more than 2000 years later. Would he be proud?

so In UK, do people learn Latin at school?

Post by tora_tora_tora »

So, can you understand what the voice say when you order something to your army?
All I can guess is it's Latin. There are some variation.

When I order something and if there are enough order points, then it says something like "yes, sir"
But if there aren't enough order points, then it says something like "Negative, sir" or "we could not afford it."

And when I put on signal button, whole army yells, and it seems it make their morale boost a little bit.

there are a couple of reasons for latin, 1st authenticity, and also the 2nd, is there is no need to localise.
