Poltava (DLC 44'East) is sci-fi?

Post by Vorskl »

Gents,
Poltava was liberated in Sep 1943 so in 1944 no tanks could storm its airfields. In reality, Nazi aviation hit the airfield causing havoc and forcing Americans to abandon their participation in the Operation 'Frantik'. Thus, I suggest to change the scenario: no heavy weapon, only infantry (let's imagine famous 'Brandenburg' saboteurs were there) and Luftwaffe bombers.

Hello,

Yes the Poltava scenario is an imaginative "sci-fi" ground raid. But (correct me if I am wrong game developers) in terms of overall gameplay that scenario was created to give a player a break from defending all of the time, and a chance to pick up equipment, prestige, or to change their playing style at a time when you wouldn't have the prestige otherwise.

With Poltava, all of the captured anti-AA is extremely helpful for someone whose expensive airforce has just took a hammering, or is a prestige windfall if you don't need the units. Or you have the opportunity to change your playing style from a plane heavy to an AA-heavy style, which many players have expressed a preference for on these forums.

I agree with the historical facts about it being an air raid, but an air raid wouldn't give the same opportunity for a player to attack or to capture extra units or prestige under game mechanics. So yes, a fictional scenario but good for gameplay.
