Game questions... maneuvering with LF in the way...charging?

Post by Montagu »

In my game this weekend, I had a group of HF extended to my right past my opponents HF battle-line. He moved up LF opposite my HF to screen the flank of this main line. My intention had been to wheel so I could in the next turn charge the flank of his HF BG.

The way I played it, was to charge his LF (he evaded), then the following turn I wheeled on his flank. This delayed my attack on his flank 1 turn. I know this is probably the way FOG intends it to be played but it seems to me that LF wouldn't be able to stop my HF BGs from just wheeling into position (ie displacing the LF) one turn earlier.

The second situation that came up was he had LF which charged my LF which was just in front of my HF. My LF evaded through my HF and we didn't know if the LF would stop or charge into (unintentionally) my HF.

Thanks for your help!

You can often, but not always and with the limitation that the number of bases contacted should not be reduced, makea single wheel as part of your charge which may achieve what you wanted (page 53).

The LF should stop 1MU away from the HF (page 60 - "Attempts to charge or receive a charge with skirmishers") unless they passed a CMT to charge.

Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify, no other way to 'clear out' or displace those LF except by charging them?

Rout them by shooting (or other forced cohesion tests eg from friends breaking) is about it if they don't move away voluntarily. Normally the charge is the way to shift them. They are a barrier to movement in your manouvre phase.
