Mortar Companies
I guess in the game the mortar guys are embedded with the infantry units, but it would be nice to see some separate Mortar Companies that could be deployed and utilized knowing their firepower would be directed specifically instead of being mixed with small arms firepower. I mean the 81mm mortars were truly heavy duty firepower. Any thoughts on this?

Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

The hex and unit scale in PzC is so variable (from division down and huge ground scales down) that the *option* to show mortar companies, or any size unit really, would be nice. The designer can designate if it is large or small scale map and thus whether he wants small scale units shown. The only *issue* might be campaigns where the designer probably should ensure the scale of each scenario is similar, but this is not a major issue IMO. For example, a mortar company would be OK on a map where cities were 4+ hexes in size, but a bit strange where the same city is only one hex in size. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Mortar Companies
I'm trying out switchable HW infantry that provide artillery-like support with range 1. I am assuming that they use their mortars and tripod mounted Medium and Heavy machine guns for this.
At the moment I use Guille's 120mm mortar icon for the support function. In a perfect world I would probably have an icon of tripod mounted MG and a medium mortar for early HW infantry and HMG and a larger mortar for the 43 HW infantry.

Re: Mortar Companies
Yes, there are plenty of motor icons but the only way to implement them is to have range one and make the unit allot more expensive and very weak defense.
It is another unit that give the human a great advantage over the AI. Best used for AI units to give the player more of a challenge.

Re: Mortar Companies
I'm trying out switchable HW, on the basis that the mortars and tripod mounted machine guns could be used as support weapons but have to be set up and sighted differently. I found a medium mortar unit icon which I use for pre 43 HW and a 120mm mortar icon gets used for 43 infantry. It took all my - very limited - modding skills to make it work (turned out I had an icon that didn't display properly but everything else was fine).
I haven't worried about how effective this option is, as I'm still feeling pleased with myself for making it work. However, the last scenario I think I used the switched support function twice, so it's either not very good or not very important.
