A clarification please about the disordered-severly disordered effect for mixed BGs. Suppose a BG of byzantine skoutatoi composed of 4 H.Foot Def.Spears and 4 M.Foot bowmen totally enters an uneven terrain. The BG is deployed in two ranks with 4 spears in front and 4 bows behind. The whole BG counts as disordered due to terrain. When they want to shoot against enemy they shoot with 3 or 4 dices? Meaning that the disordering effect influences also the M.Foot bases and reduces their shooting dice, or are they o.k since they are M.Foot so they count by the rule as "bases not in the situation" ?

I think you may have come across something that's not specifically covered.HarryKonst wrote:A clarification please about the disordered-severly disordered effect for mixed BGs. I'd be doing it this way:
In a mixed BG the morale would be the worst morale effect.
In shooting, only the shooting dice count and how those bases are affected reduces their dice.
In melee, the impact/melee dice count by file individually, but you calculate the total of the BG.
So, let's say you had 2 bases of MF in front rank disordered and 2 bases of HF (due to losses presumably) severely disordered and 2 bases of MF in rear rank behind the HF.
You have 4 dice of shooting disordered (lose 1per3) = 3 dice.
You have 8 dice of impact, 4 disordered (lose 1per3) and 4 severely disordered (lose 1 per 2) so a total of 5 dice.
You have 4 dice of melee disordered (lose 1 per 3) and 2 dice severely disordered (lose 1 per 2) so a total of 4 dice.
Hope this helps - and it's not based on rules as read because I don't think it's covered (if it is go by people who quote page numbers) but on what I believe is an understanding of intent.

Re: Disorder Effects
Don't have rules with me but surely HF are disordered the MF are not? so 4 shooting dice. Where do you read that the whole BG counts as disordered?HarryKonst wrote:A clarification please about the disordered-severly disordered effect for mixed BGs. Re: Disorder Effects
The whole BG counts as disordered for CMT and support, otherwise disorder is by base. Its in the rules.

Re: Disorder Effects
You are quoting the correct page numbers Harry and it is covered by the rules. Almost exactly what Phil said.
Disorder effects are by base. So the HF are disordered, the MF are not - for combat and shooting purposes. The entire BG is disordered for CMT. We may have to debate the rear support point as it is by bases - not BG. The MF bases are steady and as far as I can see they therefore do count as rear support.

Re: Disorder Effects
Thank you all for the replies. Here in Athens we play the rule as Pete describes. So MF bowmen in an uneven terrain keep their support dice during impact and only the dice of the spears are reduced (we check what the effect of the terrain does on each base, for shooting, melee and support, not the BG as a whole ( which is disordered of course in CMTs).
