Panzer Corps Freezing

Post by Bonesoul »

I'm playing PzC via steam and have been having an issue since I moved into DLC42, whilst playing scenarios the game is freezing, the screen goes either a greenish colour or just goes black and my pc locks up. There is no specific thing I can find that causes it, it can happen after a save or just while moving units. Worse its a proper freeze, I cant even Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to task manager and force a shutdown, the laptop has to be turned off entirely.

It's not necessarily PzC as my laptop is getting older, but I am at present not experiencing a similar issue when doing anything else on it, only PzC. One thing that may be relevant , about half the time after a reboot, there is no network connectivity which then fixed itself on another reboot. So is it possible something in the Steam/PzC interface is clashing with or causing my network adaptor to fail? Is PzC configured through steam so its only playable while there is an active network connection and any loss would cause the game to freeze?

Thanks in advance

From your description it seems your Panzer Corps issue to be something related with your graphic card. A driver issue, perhaps or even a hardware failure.
The fact of this having started after having installed DLC 42, it might just be a coincidence. DLC 42 don't update anything in the game engine... it's just more scenarios.

Your network issue can be caused by a software conflict or a hardware failure.

Although the screen going green or black and freezing, is a sign for damaged graphic chip, you should check the temperature of your laptop. Are the fans working louder?
Have you checked if the fans and heatsinks are clean of dust?

You may be right and its just coincidence and its to do with dirt in the laptop, sadly as a smoker its an issue I have had several times over the years as the crud that builds up around the fans eventually stops them working. The reason I was asking if it was PzC related, is I wouldn't have thought the game itself was particularly graphics intensive and I don't have the issue when streaming HD video.

You are right to assume that the game is not very graphical intensive... but, the freezing with black screen (or any other colour) is distinctly fried graphic chip...
Well that's what it tells my personal experience.

Black screens within the game only happen when there's a corrupted installation, caused by a wrong update. You notice this when starting a scenario, you see the UI bar with a black map instead the normal one.

Try play the game in windowed mode instead of full screen... who knows...
