A good fun competition was had with a four game two day format. 950 pt armies with no Cavalry or Knightly lancers allowed. This "miffed" at least one entrant who arrived and hadn't realised that Cataphract Lancers were allowed.
Runners and Riders were:
John Patrick - Later Macedonian
Phil Powell - Dailami
Rob Taylor - Swiss (in a change for Rob, a risky and interesting choice)
Marc Lunn - Later Seleukid
Dave Morrison - Early Horse Nomad (Xiongnu) - actually, very little light horse in this army with two large allied contingents
Graham Roberts - Pyhrric
Dave Ruddock - Mamluk
Neil Siddons-Smith (Saturday) - Mongol Invasion
Chris Thorne (Sunday) - Early Achamaenid Persian
Thanks to Neil and Chris who played on alternate days to even the numbers up.
Results were:
1. Dave Ruddock - 74 pts
2. Rob Taylor - 52 pts
3. Marc Lunn - 51 pts
Four of the players had an IC, I think there was only four army breaks all weekend out of the sixteen games.

Re: Derby Delights Results
Not enough lancers or impact foot. I was involved in half the army breaks and had most BG of both. The man who fixed the competition wrote:I think there was only four army breaks all weekend

Re: Derby Delights Results
The irony of a player bringing Swiss and then moaning about getting draws
Tournament conditions were 950 pts, no Cavalry or Knight Lancers allowed.
The armies were:
Graham "watch those roof tiles" Roberts - Pyhrric
John "pike" Patrick - Later Macedonian
Neil "I should have brought an IC" Siddons-Smith - Mongol Invasion
Chris "Kofun Nara" Thorne - Early Achamaenid Persian
Phil "it'll beat Swiss" Powell - Dailami
Marc "I read the tournament conditions" Lunn - Later Seleukid
Rob "dull" Taylor - Swiss
Dave "I didn't read the tournament conditions carefully" Morrison - Early Horse Nomad (Xiongnu)
Dave "awesome" Ruddock - Mamluk
Anyway - results in full
Round 1
Graham Roberts 3 - 17 John Patrick
Neil Siddons-Smith 6 - 14 Phil Powell
Marc Lunn 9 - 11 Rob Taylor
Dave Morrison 0 - 25 Dave Ruddock
Round 2

Round 4
Dave Ruddock 25 - 0 Phil Powell
Rob Taylor 16 - 4 John Patrick
Marc Lunn 17 - 3 Graham Roberts
Chris Thorne 9 - 11 Dave Morrison
1. Dave Ruddock -- 74
2. Rob Taylor -- 52
3. Marc Lunn -- 51
4. Phil Powell -- 44
5. Neil Siddons-Smith / Chris Thorne -- 33
6. Dave Morrison -- 31
6. John Patrick -- 31
8. Graham Roberts -- 19
Many thanks to my four opponents (Dave, John, Marc and Phil). Much tales of derring do, including Elite Mamluks breaking MF offensive Spear stood uphill, breaking offensive spearmen within difficult going and breaking numerous pike blocks with cavalry (it's all skill honest).
I didn't play well in my game against Marc (I blame Phil for this) and probably should have lost, but managed to hold on for a draw in the end (but both sides lost 10AP out of 14 BG armies)
In my last game, Phil lucked out with terrain and didn't get any so ended up facing Mamluks in the open. It didn't end well, Phil is quoted as saying "I've never had so many markers on the table at any one time before)
I'm sure other players have similar tales of excitement* which it would be good to hear.
We had cooked food on both days, a curry on Saturday and stew on Sunday. Both very palatable.
We plan on repeating the event next year, with a biblical theme - so please drop me a mail if you are planning on attending, last weekend in April.
Just for interest - my army was:
1xIC, 2xTC
2x4 Elite Cv, Armoured, Drilled, Bow, Swordsmen
6x4 Superior, Cv, Armoured, Drilled, Bow, Swordsmen
3x4 Average, LH, Unprotected, Lancer, Swordsmen
1x4 Average, LH, Unprotected, Bow, Swordsmen
1x4 Average, LF, Protected, Handgunners
1x6 Poor, Mob

Re: Derby Delights Results
Not a lot I could do facing Mamluks
MF in the open v's armoured cavalry.
I get shot. I charge. Evens impact. I fight. Evens melee. If he loses he breaks off to out of charge reach. If I lose I take an extra minus on CT and he sticks on to beat me up.
If I am badly beaten but he is fighting 2 BG and breaks off he can charge back immediately, nasty against fragged guys. If he is badly beaten he goes 5MU away so gets a turn to rally or run off before I can do anything.
Best I did was to knock a couple of BG down to 2 bases.
