Are there any GOOD mods for allied side?

Post by timek28 »

Hi guys,

I kind of got bored playing the Germans all the time. Are there any good mods where you play allies? When I say this I mean British and American. I already played Soviet campaigns (bebro's and Nikki's), and honestly first years of war aren't much fun :)

Also I was thinking about campaigns that don't use custom graphics (GME) but original AC units (as most of the time custom graphics aren't as good as original).

Thanks in advance :)

Maelstrom/Red Dawn deserve some love: viewtopic.php?f=147&t=39055. They use GME, but the custom graphics and sound are really good. Well-polished overall and contains historical side notes. You need to have AK installed as well.

Hey Shrike thanks for the great suggestion :)

On a side note I haven't bought AK. I own PC, AC and the whole western GC... Can I try installing with them instead?

Thanks!

Maelstrom is an excellent mod indeed.

Though IIRC you need AK to play certain maps of it... maybe ask ElCondoro who did the mod for clarification.

My War of the World (Grand Strategy Global Map) uses the vanilla AC stuff - and as long as the AI doesn't be too silly you should have fun as the Allies.

I asked in the mod thread, but nobody answered... I'm not sure who is in charge of that mod... I asked ElCondoro specifically but he didn't answer.

The thing is maps look OK, and units look OK, but sounds are pretty messed up as well as animations (some units lack firing animations which makes gameplay ugly). The first scenario worked with AC but the second one gave my the content missing message. I cannot see what AK has that AC doesn't have, but hey whatever... I'm not trying to play that mod until someone clarifies things on requirements.

I might try your Soviet mod Bebro again. I remember having troubles with graphics (GME) the last time I tried it but sure it was pretty fun :)

IIRC it's that Maelstrom uses some maps taken from AK. If I understood the issue correctly for maps provided as official content you need to have the addon installed they came out with, otherwise you get the error you received.

The devs or El_C might be able to answer that more definately. If you couldn't catch El_C maybe he's simply not that active in the PzC world currently.

Thanks for the answer :) Well considering the fact that I milked most out of the game (except trying out multiplayer) I'm considering hiatus too... Too bad I cannot find any other game this enjoyable :(
