number of hits to test if hit by artillery
Hi FoggRs
sorry if it has been already posted. 2 points:
Can you please tell me how many hit does an artillery need to score to triiger a cohesion test to a GBG of 14 piques in 3 files.
What is the point about warriors? Do they force a test when they make 2 hits, even if they loose the combat?

Re: number of hits to test if hit by artillery
Answers to the two questions:-
1. Shooting at non- warrior types triggers a CT when there is one hit per 3 figures in the BG. However you only count the first 3 rows. Thus in your example of a GBG with 14 bases in three files, the first 3 rows total 9 bases. Therefore the artillery need to do 3 hits to force a CT. If Artillery are shooting at Warriors they only need to do 2 hits REGARDLESS of the size of the BG. Remember the -1 in the CT for shooting is for 1 hit per 2 bases.
2. Only the side losing a close combat takes a CT. If they have inflicted 3 or more hits when losing, then the winning side can still have a death roll with a -2 off the dice and could thus lose a base. Also if a general was fighting in the front rank for the winning side and at least two hits were scored on them, then the General could still be killed on a 12. Being Warriors and losing (or indeed winning) has no additional affect.
Why warriors? If in melee with an overlap, then the overlap dice always hits on a ++ (i.e a 3+ on the dice).
Hope that helps

Another thing with warriors is they move FAST (4")
With MF for example there is a good chance that people will get multiple close range shots (at least 2 if they don't want to fight). Vs WARRIORS (and Det foot) you are lucky to get 1.
Enemy MF move to 6" to get long range fire. Warriors then move to 4" and take anothe round of long range fire. MF move to 3" to get a close range shot then WHAMO - the Warriors charge home.

Another thing to remember: when firing with multiple BGs, some artillery and some not. the minus for being shot at by artillery applies even if the artillery scores no hits itself, assuming, of course that enough hits are scored altogether actually to cause a test - in your example, 3 hits.quackstheking wrote:Answers to the two questions:-

what about if the GBG was a Late Tercio instead of a Keil ? how bases in these formation must be accounted for 1 on 3 ? the rear horn are accounted or not ? a large 16 bases ET require 4 or 6 hits in order to test ?
Thanks
Matteo

Hi Matteo,
I assume your question is about an Early Tercio (with horns) rather than a Later Tercio.
Still the first 3 ranks including the rear horns. . Thus a 16 base Early Tercio GBG with 4 horns of 2 bases and a pike block of 8 bases would count as 12 bases for the 1 per 3 calculation and therefore require 4 hits to force a CT.

Yes thanks.
My doubt arose becouse as Early Tercio have no flanck It's possible to say that ALL bases (16) count (every bases It's in firth 3 ranks in a side or onother)

That would be the Tercio d'Fromage interpretation....MatteoPasi wrote:Yes thanks.

Technically as Tercio's are Spanish it would be the Tercio de queso interpretation if I am not mistaken...
