SPM development update 31/03/2014

Post by Nacho84 »

Hello all,

I hope you're well. Just a quick update on the development for the next patch for SPM (version 0.7.16): we made quite a bunch of progress during the weekend, mainly by tyding up all the loose ends required in order to get a stable build. We've added lots of new programs, missions, components and goals during the past weeks but we didn't have enough time to create all the images for them, so you'll see some "placeholder" images here and there (see the screenshots). The images will be replaced in the upcoming builds. However, you should be able to test the game just as fine :)

I've made an interim build this morning, which I've sent to Iain so that we can start some internal playtesting. I still need to add the goal dependencies for the new missions in the spreadsheet, which I will do during this week while also fixing any bugs reported regarding the interim build. If everything goes well, I'll be uploading SPM 0.7.16 for you to try out very soon!

In the other departments, Mauricio is busy making new renders for the Soviet missions and Boris has been making lots of progress in the NASA space complex. I'm attaching some screenshots for you to peruse.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to address them as soon as I can.

Cheers,

I'm afraid no, that building will be part of one of the last updates before the final release. We want to implement all gameplay features first.

Hello guys,

A quick update on the next build: we sent an interim build to Slitherine a few days ago and they got back to us with some comments regarding the usability of the new screens, which we have addressed during the week (plus some other fixes along the way). I'm currently sending Slitherine another interim build so that they can give us some more feedback. In the meantime we'll spend some more time tweaking the game's database and tidying up some assets. We'll keep you posted :)

Hello Codz,

Stay tuned! It's coming in the next few days :) We've been doing lots of internal testing in the past few days and been tidying up lots of loose ends. We want to do some more testing and tweaking before releasing it to the early adopters. We know you guys are eager to try all the latest features, but we want to polish things up as much as we can so that you don't encounter any major bugs (or just a few if you do!) and you can focus your suggestion in gameplay balancing issues instead.

So how often do I have to check the forum today? Every 15 minutes? Every 30 minutes? Or is there no chance that it's coming today and I can go do something more usefull with my time?

Requested feature: we receive an email whenever an update is posted. We did after all give our emails when we bought it...

I just made a quick call to Iain about this. While it's true that Slitherine has your e-mail addresses, we are not very fond of the idea of sending an e-mail each time an update is posted, since we're now planning to go back to a mode where we'll be releasing updates more often and we don't want to "spam" players with our messages. Some of them are not interested or do not have the time to test each and every update, and we don't want to drown them with notifications :)

That being said, we can provide an alternative solution: once we release 0.7.16, I'll create a sticky thread that I will update each time a new version is up. Please subscribe to that thread and you'll get an e-mail each time a new version is up.
