Warfare 2014 FOG competitions

Here are the FOG themes for this year's Warfare. Thanks to Robert Taylor and Graham Briggs for their help with these.


FOG:AM (Alexander to Augustus – 15mm, 800points, 6’x4’-ish tables)
Any army from the following lists, dates must be between 336BC and 14AD:

Rise of Rome: Any list
Immortal Fire: Classical Greek; Thracian; Kyrenean Greek; Early Carthaginian; Skythian or Saka; Classical Indian; Late Achaemenid Persian; Syracusan; Alexandrian Macedonian; Early Successor; Early Sarmatian; Galatian; Hellenistic Greek; Graeco-Bactrian; Indo-Greek
Legions Triumphant: Principate Roman; Kushan or Indo-Skythian; Early German; Ancient British; Early Scots-Irish; Dacian or Carpi
Lost Scrolls: Early Republican Roman; Etruscan League; Italian Hill Tribes; Latin; Samnite; Campanian; Apulian, Lucanian or Bruttian

Any army from the following lists:

Empires of the Dragon: Any list
Immortal Fire: Classical Indian (only Guptas)

Hi Tim - thanks for posting these nice and early.

I know it is more work to set up but is there any chance you could run the 15mm early period on smaller tables - say 5' x 3'? I think it would be a be a positive change and make the HF armies more viable.

It normally keeps the accountants happy as they can squeeze more gamers into the same amount of space!

Thanks for raising the issue nice and early Pete, so there's time to consider it. I have no problem with taping off the tables that way - we did two years ago but not last year as v.2 was settling in.

Is there a general view than 5' x 3' is a better-balanced size for Classical? Remember that Warfare is 3h15m games, not the normal 3h30m, so HI armies may need some advantage to be able to get to grips with the shoot and scoot brigade.

Just my opinion - but I think 5' x 3.5' is a better size as it does at least give some room for manoever.

I think that varying the table size or AP makes any period more interesting. They did it at Britcon last year for the Medieval period and this year the smaller tables will be used for the Ancient Pool.

On checking they are using 60" x 40".

Hopefully others will give a view on this forum but next weekend should be a good opportunity to take a straw poll Tim?

90 points, but they are very different to field fortifications. Perhaps the moral of the story is that fortifications don't work?
