how many wheels ?

Post by KeefM »

The CMT table on page 45 has the sentence "Any forward move including a wheel" ... does the "a" in this sentence mean that only a single wheel is allowed ?? Is more than 1 wheel allowed with a CMT ?

On page 38 (3rd bullet left column) allows up to 90 degrees of wheeling in a move. Does this mean that more than a single wheel is allowed but with the total wheeling only adding to 90 degrees ?

I've always taken it to mean up to 90 in total of all wheeling, more than one wheel if you want.

I am pretty sure it means up to 90 degrees in one move, so you can make more than one small wheel which do not add up to more than 90 degrees, however keep in mind all wheeling has to be completed within the first half of the move.

Of course if you are in column and moving along a road you ignore those restrictions as you follow any curves in the road.

I always thought that the restriction that all wheeling must be completed in the first half of the move only related to assaults.

It is definitely stated on p29 in the section "Wheeling During an Assault Move" - second bullet point.

It is mentioned again in the "Moving Units" section - sixth bullet, p.37-38
"All wheeling must be completed within the first half of the move and before any straight forwards movement if the unit is making an assault move." (My emphasis)

I can't find any other reference to it, and both of these seem to be pretty clearly linked to assault moves only.

The 90 degree limit definitely applies to both assaults and regular moves, but it isn't restricted to a single wheel AFAIK.

The diagram on page 38 shows 2 wheels being made in a move.
I would not interperate the "a" on page 45 as limiting a normal move to only 1wheel.

You can make any number of wheels during the movement phase, as long as the total wheel does not exceed 90 deg.
The reason we allow the 'slide' move is to avoid players a having to keep double-wheeling just to move slight to the right or left.
