Re: Schiltron - 29th & 30th March 2014
Okay then my predictions after much scrutinising of the armies.
I think the top 3 will be any from the following 6:
Leslie Mitchell - was going well last year until he bumped into me. Plenty of open and terrain troops with the added time helping the heavy foot armies.
John Munro - Lots of impact foot for terrain and some Romans to help out in the open.
Dave Morrison - Under-rated but beat me the last time we met. One of a host of Steppe armies and his 24 bases of Lancer Cav have the sneaky option to dismount as heavy foot if needed.
Alan Cutner - Another Steppe army but will this have enough punch with only 18 bases of Lancer Cav. The Dailami can help cover terrain.
Paul Johnston - Always puts up a strong showing and has a lot of experience with shoot and scoot armies. V2 helps his knights become Superior but won't want to face a lot of heavy foot. His first priority of not losing a game may lead to too many draws.
Myself - Always need considering after the last 2 successes at Schiltron. Leaving the Ottomans at home may be too much of a handicap but the Kofun Nara have proved they can beat or be beaten by any army.

Breaking news delivered to you by your MITH Broadcasting Service.
MITH has heard on good authority that the first round draw will be made soon and in any case in advance of the basho in the style Cutner intended. It is hoped this innovation will reduce RT to only three bouts of apoplexy as he scans the books for any little details that would aid him in his three in a row quest. Yes that was three in a row I said Rob - steady!
Watch this space for more details as our MITH staff burrow relentlessly on your behalf.

To date in all Schiltron Tournaments that Robert has won, he has lost/draw his games to one person only...
Me, So Robert maybe this year you might get points from me, or like previous year you manage to skip pass me

Re: Schiltron - 29th & 30th March 2014
Ah well having scanned the armies I might face I find myself engulfed within a sad mist of melachony and despair. I think with his army choice and his superior generalship that the noble Hunter Hope is leading the way as the main favourite. Whilst alas, I will sink into a position of sad mediocrity yet again. Woe, woe, thrice woe why did I not seek an army of chivalry in this competition of titans rather than a few enthusiastic peasants from the peninsula of Iberia. Even the noble Shuggie laughs and indeed sniggers at my prophesied demise and the unpitying Sassenachs rub their hands in glee at the thought that I might be their lacklustre opponent. Especially if George succumbs to the many offered bribes and royally stitches me up like the proverbial kipper.
Off for a cup of hemlock before bedtime.

Sheesh - what's all this "dog with a bone" business? Everyone knows dogs and moles dont mix!
As for army picks I suspect your gamble on impact foot may well pay off as - bizzarely - there aint too much knightly opposition.
In response to you badgering - sheesh, another predator! - I agree that my army pick and generalship skills may still propel me to the hitherto unknown heights of somewhere near the bottom of the top 20.
George was hoping to publish the draw on Saturday morning but MITH has begged him to consider Thursday evening so that travellers have a heads up and so that the draw can inform yet more high brow debate in this august forum. Hah!
I guess it wil depend on GDs diary and how he wants to run the admin campaign for the wargaming juggernaut that Schiltron has become. We are in his mighty paws.
MITH has another practice game versus Senor Munro on Thursday. The last one would have seen the Scots using the Euro or Peseta long before September! I will clue you in on all the gory details on Friday. Doesn't look good for Moley though as we have sucumbed twice to Jim C's Palmyrans as well ..... endangered species status beckons!

Stopping being modest Hunter, you are the man for this tournament. Jim and I were not fooled by you letting us win. Your uber Scots have everyone else in awe of their shooting power. Might as well let you pick up the trophy on Saturday lunchtime.

John is kind .... too kind though. The MITH does not aspire to greatness although there is no denying he has the capacity to bring down a saucy fellow or two on his way to middle table equilibrium. As the Navi has wisely pointed out the dice Gods have a larf at all of us from time to time. Why sweat it though - laugh with them! In the sage words of Spanker Thomson "It's only a war game".

Hunter, I see that you are spreading your bets with a Scottish player and two Southerners. Good idea, keeping in with the English just in case you have to seek political asylum South of the Border after the vote. Actually I only disagree with your predictictions ( wild guesses) on one area and that is you yourself will of ourse be at the top place on the podium. I will of course applaud your success from my modest position well down the table.

Isn't it an arab shopping mall?
Looking forward to the weekend now. Pity we couldn't get more of our English pals on board. There are lots of Scots making the trek to Britcon and Bayfog these days. C'mon Phil & coy. - where are ya! Never mind ........ what we lack in quantity we make up for in pre basho banter.
MITH Broadcasting Services predicts that the all important first round draw is imminent. Press crews from around the world may possibly be converging on a bemused housing estate in Bearsden eager to be first in line to break the news. The alleged offers of wads of cash, loose women and booze lakes will be to no avail however as GD has possibly committed to reaveal all on

watch that space (potentially)!

Could be the last year the English are allowed to go! Unfortunately, my wife wont let me. Mainly because of the alleged offers of wads of cash, loose women and booze lakes.

Either that seek asylum North of the Border. Far better divorce laws.

Thank you Hunter, John, full of sound advice as ever. I could always tell my wife it's your fault.
