RTT'42 Campaign: Calendar Day 19 NOV 1942-End of Day

Post by Navaronegun »

Calendar Day 19 NOV 1942
Command Turn

All,

As we start Calendar Day 19 NOV, please make note of the Errata below. These are changes made to the campaign rules by Cavehobbit and myself determined as a result of the conduct of Calendar Day 18 NOV. The bottom line; a more simultaneous resolution of Air, Arty, and Movement Orders, as well as a more surprising reinforcement method.

Issue 5 - "Is there some way we can incorporate the Air and Artillery Phase into the Movement Orders Phase? This would save time regarding resolution of those phase and add randomness to both Phases. For example, Hexes interdicted by Air Units in the current method are a big hint for both sides as to the possible movement orders that may be submitted.”

6th Errata – The rules will be altered.

1.) Air and Artillery Orders will be submitted simultaneously by the commanders and revealed to each side simultaneously. Separate initiative rolls will be made for Air, Artillery, and Movement Orders to determine who has the first priority in each set of orders. The Air and Artillery Orders Phase and the Movement Orders Phase will be combined into a “Support and Movement Orders Phase”. Air and Artillery orders will be simultaneously revealed and resolved first. Movement Orders will be resolved second. The effect of this is that while the orders are resolved in succession, they are revealed and resolved at the same time. So in Campaign terms, they happen at the same time.

2.) The Air rules are altered. All Air Units given the Interception Mission must be given a target type of “Interdiction”, “Ground Support”, or “Airborne Assault”. All Units given an Interception Mission must be given a Priority order like movement orders are given. Air units *must* intercept missions in the priority order given in the orders. As well, Air units *must* intercept the Interdiction mission closest to the Airbase the Interceptor is based at, as counted in Hexes. Air units intercepting Airborne Assault Missions *must* intercept the Airborne Assault Target Hex closest to the Airbase the Interceptor is based at, counted in Hexes. Air units intercepting Ground Support Missions *must* intercept the Air Units conducting Ground Support *whose Airbase* is closest to the Airbase the Interceptor is based at, counted in Hexes. In the case of a tie in distance, a die roll will be made.

Issue 6 - "Can we somehow not reveal Reinforcement Locations until move orders are revealed?”

Yes. Reinforcements will now be included in movement orders. This will occur (their placement on the map) before all moves occur. Their normal movement that Phase will be included in the normal movement orders. The Replacement, Reinforcement and Reorganization Phase will now be termed the Replacement and Reorganization Phase.

I think the best way to describe our operations to date is that they have violated every recognized principle of war.

Calendar Day 19 NOV 1942
Allies Move The French, Winter Rains Status is "Partly Cloudy", Today's Weather is Rainy
Command Turn
Operational Turn - Support and Movement Orders - Air Combat Resolution

There are no Artillery Orders this phase. The combined Axis and Allied Air orders are:

Image

So we have 2 Air to Air Combats between the 2 Allied Interceptors and 2 Axis Interdiction Missions.
The Air Combat Chart
Image

*Note: All Rolls witnessed by both GMs using the "PBE Games : Dice Roller"

14th Fighter Group has first priority and attempts to intercept the closest Interdiction mission, in hexes to its Off-Map Base in Bone. That mission is an Interdiction of Hex 1320 (Beja) by II./Sturzkampfgeschwader 3 Escorted by 11./Jagdgeschwader 2 'Richthofen' . 14th Fighter Group must defeat 11./Jagdgeschwader 2 'Richthofen' and if it does, it may then attempt combat against II./Sturzkampfgeschwader 3

Air to Air Combat One - 14th Fighter Group versus 11./Jagdgeschwader 2 'Richthofen'

Image

14th Fighter Group rolls 1d10-2 and gets a "1" net roll of "-1" and misses 11./Jagdgeschwader 2 'Richthofen' . 11./Jagdgeschwader 2 'Richthofen' rolls a "7" and an "8". The Fw-190As send the P-38F's running home!. II./Sturzkampfgeschwader 3 will Interdict Hex 1320 (Beja).

1st Fighter Group has second priority and attempts to intercept the closest Interdiction mission, in hexes to its Off-Map Base in Bone. That mission is an Interdiction of Hex 1617 (Teboursouk) by III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As'.

Air to Air Combat Two - 1st Fighter Group versus III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As'
Image

1st Fighter Group rolls 1d10 and gets a "7" aborting III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As' . III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As' rolls 1d10 and gets a "10" ". 1st Fighter Group aborts III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As' but its P-38Fs get shot down by the Bf 109F2's of III./Jagdgeschwader 53 'Pik As' . 1st Fighter Group will be available again at the beginning of the Command Turn on Calendar Day 21 NOV.

So the Remaining Air Missions after Air to Air Combats are:
Axis:
The Ju-87Ds of II./Sturzkampfgeschwader 3 interdicts 1320 (Beja).
The Ju-87Ds of III./Sturzkampfgeschwader 3 are available as Ground Support.

Today's Movement Orders:

Movement as Displayed on the Map:

Note the mess of arrows around Medjez El Bab as multiple units shift position in that area. A Mess!
Also note that 6 RWK BN has insufficient movement to reach Hex 1320 as the roads in that hex are negated due to Interdiction. 6 RWK BN must cease movement in Hex 1420.

There are no Battles this day. Both sides are cautious and maneuver....again. :?
