Norway and Sweden

Post by BattlevonWar »

Just getting into the game but I have some very valid questions to begin with. Okay taking Norway is difficult, it cost and if the Royal Navy wants to make it hard depending on which scenario you use it could be painful. The supply of 1(from adjacent surface ship) is downright pathetic...so other than a defenseless Norway, it's not the wisest endeavor I suppose other than protecting your Northern Flank.

Though there is a flip side to that, taking Sweden is free, I see no punishment for that DOW? Why not?

Other than that does anyone here invade Norway? Seems a painful sideshow I suppose this does leave Sea Lion and the Royal navy vulnerable if they attempt to intervene but any suggestions on getting your amphibious craft across cheaper and easier? Thanks

Norway is very easy to take and you can make it very painful for the RN to intervene

you only have to take Oslo

check out the AAR section

Taking Sweden is not at all easy, they have a decent-sized army and it's a major distraction. I don't think I've ever seen a PBEM AAR where the Germans have gone for Sweden. Norway can be difficult, though, if the allies can intervene, as I'm finding in my current game versus RichardsD...

I think Sweden also has partisans, even after you conquer it (and lots of forest for them to spawn in), which Norway and Denmark don't...

Germany receives up to 6 PP's from the Swedish iron ore. If they conquer Sweden they won't get more PP's. So there are not many reasons for Germany to take Sweden. They can certainly conquer Sweden in a few turns, but it will cost PP, oil and time. Having to garrison Swedish cities means that you weaken yourself elsewhere if you take Sweden.

It is a good point! Unless you have to defend it from an invasion anyway... Ironically I DOWed Switzerland as well, no political payback for the Germans? I hope they give partisans as well or cost benefit ratio is not favourable. That would have peed off the Americans or at least the World would have frowned a little more than usual. N

What's the point in making a DoW on Switzerland as Germany? They have no PPs and a strong army of 4 Infantry Corps with decent organisation/effectiveness, with no surprise modifier and they're defending in mountains, so you'll probably lose a bunch of PPs in casualties unecessarily. Or did you mean DoW them as the allies? In addition to the above reasons, every declaration of war by Britain or France on a minor neutral country prior to USA entry reduces the USA war effort by 5.

Mind you, if you're playing against the AI instead of a human opponent you can probably get away with attacking both Sweden and Switzerland, because it's dumb...

Just shocked there is such low/or no PP value to places that had some industry. I see the purpose to the whole game to remove the focus on the Minors that typically in most other games get exploited a lot. So they remove all the PP value or value vs gain to keep this game a bit more historical and keep troops off certain soil.

I am glad that DOWing them would hurt USA War Entry, realistic. The fact there is factories in Tobruk/Tunis/or other far flung mud shacks huts and not Bern, at least 1 is a little hmm?

Yeah, it does seems a little odd that Switzerland give *any* PP, I guess it's for balance

I think that the main reason is not to encourage any attack on Switzerland.
