Mod for Advanced start Levant/Egypt/Anatolia/Mesopotomia

Post by rbodleyscott »

Is there an easy way to Mod the regional sub-campaigns so they start at the same date and level of technology as the advanced full campaign?

What I would really like to do is replace some of the non-historical campaigns (which I will never use) with Advanced techno-start versions of the historical regional campaigns. (So that it is still possible to select the primitive regional campaigns when desired.)

It is possible, but the documentation on "how-to" is rather scarce. Most of the associated files are viewable or moddable with a text editor, and a lot of things are somewhat self-explanatory. You can change the numbers fairly easily, but there are a few instances where you need to change the same thing in two or three different files to prevent conflicts in the data, and either strange results or outright game crashes. There are (or were) some sketchy guides on how to alter certain stats and values, but I don't think anyone ever came up with a "Modder's Handbook" for the game. If altering any of the files, be sure to save them in a text-only format, not in the "enriched" form which your word processor defaults to.

I vaguely recall that one file dealt with the advance rate of technology, including a long list of the various advances and values which determined how soon they would occur. You could have it begin at a higher level, progress faster or slower by adjusting the numbers, or even change the order of advances, but I don't remember which file it was anymore. I'll try to look at it over the wekend if I get a chance.
