First Games Today

Post by Najanaja »

Just got the game set up today so I can't make any specific comments yet.

I think BA is far and away the best tactical wargame available and I hope the new version will not see any significant changes in the basic game mechanics.

I like it because of it's elegant simplicity (something like a Frank Chadwick board wargame). The essence has been captured - not easy to do.

I know the rivet counters will find fault and try to add complexity (i used to be one myself) - but don't mess with it too much.

Changes that could enhance the game for me would be more control over the choice of units and their quality (within historical constraints).

Some control over terrain for a defending side - eg A side that owns the terrain could have prior knowledge of (ie deploy) fords that would not be available to the attacker initially. Or defending side could have some ability to deploy (purchased) improved positions.

Limited use of flank marches could add an element of realism and force players to consider garrisoning/patrolling important rear area assets.

Limited use of reinforcements including paratroopers - inexact arrival in time and space of course.

These changes should not dominate, but allow a little more uncertainty and realism without adding any significant complexity.

Anyway just a few thoughts.
