What does it mean by "Landsturm MUST only be used in open order"?

Cheers

Hi Alex

Thinking of an Andreas Hoffer army?
I took one of these to a recent tournie. Not a very competitive army (superior unreformed LI at 18 pts a base - ouch, plus 6 compulsory units that must be in skirmish formation).

That said, it is a lot of fun and a challenge to use.

My tactics were to dance with skirmishers on the flanks - sneaking out to pop away at the enemy and draw their attention before racing back into terrain when threatened, hopefully distracting the enemy on the flanks.
Meanwhile 3 units of superior LI, 2 units of line infantry (with rifle and artillery attachments) and the Austrian Jaegers pick an enemy division, shoot it to disordered and assault it.

A lack of cavalry means that your opponent will usually get all 4 bonus points if it's a draw, so I used aggressive tactics to get a result (one way or the other).

Worked out ok for me 2 of the 4 games...

Lots of terrain is critical to reduce the threat of enemy cavalry and to give the skirmishers somewhere to hide. The list has the terrain type as 'France and Central Europe' - which generally means openish terrain where the Tyroleans are dead men walking. However Terry and Mike (the list author) have confirmed this is an error and the terrain should be 'Southern Europe' - which gives the army plenty of steep hills and a fighting chance. Philip (the co-umpire at the tournie) was kind enough to let to confirm that I could use the Southern Europe terrain table.

Cheers
Brett
