Two against one

Another question, just to make sure I am reading the rules correctly. If I have one large and one small unit fighting frontally in close combat against one small unit, all units being in tactical formation, how many dice do I get?

My small unit fights with 6 dice, that is clear. Does my large unit fight with 8 dice, even though it will have one of its files hanging out in the breeze, as it were? Or does it only fight with 6 dice because it can only get a small unit's worth of bases touching (and immediately overlapping) the enemy unit?

In combat you fight as a unit, so the large gets 8 dice. Large units might shoot as a small unit if only one end is in front of the enemy, slightly different situation.
