guille1434 wrote:Another request fullfilled, this time one made by Messmann. The 15 cm sIG 33... The complete unit pack, with base icons and mask for the AT and artillery modes, and all the camo schemes.
This icon is made using Bebro's work as a base and adding some detail work to the barrel, which was made by my friend Asuser.

By the way, I downloaded the Amulet mod by Messmann... I have not tried it yet, but I liked very much the way that the documentation for that game mod is made. Very good job, Messmann! I will try tu support your work by making the icons you need... 8)

Cheers!
Many thanks for your support! I daresay without your units and without your free sharing this whole modding thing wouldn't have been possible. :!: And don't bother about playing it. I haven't played it either, except for testing purposes.

Thanks for the sIG 33 icon. The camo schemes are exactly the way I need :) I have to admit, though, that I am thinking about making it a little bit smaller and raising the barrel to the common angle, because it works better with the animations.

I will include my "first unit" here. It is a kubelwagen (with masks).

In retrospect, it might appear a bit too small, maybe flimsy even. It also does not have the totally correct shadow. But I think it is reasonable enough to be used as some kind of improvisation.

I have not come up with a camo scheme yet, because I don't know what kind of schemes are commonly used. In Dwights Camo Shop, I have not been able to find SE normal Camo and the appropriate desert camo.

Maybe I have to look it up somewhere, but where can I find the appropriate camo schemes for SE, SE desert, SS, and normal desert? Just to make sure that it looks all the same, so to speak.

And what kind of program do you use for what kind of shadow generating, and what kind of setting do you use for shadows? And do you use a program do lighten up icons from the right above so that you won't have to change pixels individually?

If there is a link to answer my questions, just refer to that.

Nice job with the Kubelwagen!

It is pretty much in vanilla style, which I like. But the shadow indeed looks a bit odd. It should be under the vehicle and not behind it. Somehow like this:
Kubelwagen_Inf.png
Kubelwagen_Inf.png (22.35 KiB) Viewed 5668 times

I suggest "stealing" the shadow of similar existing units. For this modification I stole the shadow of the Blitz. I think this is the easiest way of making correct shadows.
And the smaller two icons of the four should be even smaller, about half the size of the original ones, so I made them even smaller.

Compare it with the other vehicles in the game, yours is the upper one:

Anyway, nice work for a "first unit" :)

The viewing angle also doesn't look right like the rest of the vehicles, but the other infantry units don't have the same angle like the vehicles anyway. I guess that's one reason why they have never added visible crew on vehices and guns, besides the Kradschützen.
You could still enlarge it like the Kradschützen maybe. so the crew doesn't look that tiny compared to the infantry. Doesn't matter, I'm still glad for any Kübel!

PS: Maybe two versions: one in the small scale of the Willys Jeep without crew, and one larger in style of the Kradschützen with crew.

Hi Messmann!

Some answers for you:

15 cm sIG33: Your suggestions are correct! I prepared and will upload the new icons with reduced size (80% from the previous version). Also, I made the barrel for the indirect fire version more elevated. I think they look better now. You can find them in the original post, the new base icons and masks are also included.

Camo schemes for DCS: here is the link to download a pack with the skins I use for all the regular, SE and SS versions of the icons I upload. There are various shades of each one, because depending of the base icon lightness or darkness, you may use one lighter or darker vesion of the same camo scheme. Its good to standarize the icon schemes, to build a more or less "uniform" icons set.

The link is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/b5bv0o

The shadows and icon lightning is made by my exclusively by eye-and-hand... I do not use any specific software... I made the icons mostly cropping-resizing-cutting-pasting from other icons and from images found in internet. I always try to obtain an icon with the "Pz Corps look"...

Also, I found your Kubelwagen a very good job... That inspired me to work on this nice little vehicle... (See folowing posts).

Greetings to all!

Many thanks for the icons and the camo schemes. I've always wondered what kind of scheme would fit best.

At first, please do not work at the Kubelwagen, because it may be that I have finally figured it out

Attached you will find it, in this message only the transport pack...

Oh, well...

Sorry, Messmann, here are another version of the Kubelwagen, with a variety of configurations and camo schemes...

Just finished the "other" Kubelwagen pack... and also did the "recon" versions of that vehicle... Following your idea of making a variant with two figures and a vehicle mounted machine gun.

By the way, to this last versions I decide to call them "Kubelwagen_Recon-xx" but I think thet a more german name would be better suited.
So... Anyone speaking German here can suggest a name to replace the word "recon" and give this unit a better name? Thanks!

Here is also the image that was in my "Icons To Do" folder which gave me the base for this work, and also I was very inspired by the excellent icon made by Messmann. Enjoy!

PS: Very good Sdkfz 8 Bufla!

... and now the complete Bunkerflak pack, with masks and all. :!: Split in three because of file size restrictions.

With regard to the new infantry I have tried out something similar. I will probably change it a little and place the machine gun post somewhere in the middle, or below middle. It's just an idea, I will have to try it out.

Thanks for the icon and for your work at the sIG 33.

Thanks for the sandbags, I have tried to find good ones, so they are very useful ;)

(I will also work at 8.8 Flaks.)

Oops! So it goes. :)

A difficult choice, though... Your kubelwagen has more perspective.

As a designation, I recommend "Kübelwagen Typ 87" (general designation) or "Kübelwagen Aufklärer" (Aufklärer means scout).

Hi Messmann!

About that Sdkfz 8 Bunker Flak... The icon is very well made, I specially like the armored body of the vehicle!
But... I remembered that when I was researching about that vehicle, that I found it was not capable of AA fire... First, gun elevation was limited to 35 degrees, and second the gun was removed of all the AA fire control gear... So, this unit should be made as a direct fire (its proposed mission, to attack bunkers) and indirect fire vehicle (the gun could fire like an artillery piece at higher elevations).

The later version, which had a 8,8 cm gun mounted on a Sdkfz 9 12 ton half track was capable of AA fire, but on the other hand it could not fire directly to the front in ground to ground mode, because the armored cab was too high.

Just some data...

Yes, you are right. :!: I have read the similar info as well.

Some people use this as a flak, but I have done away with this Bunker-"Flak" thing very early on. A Bunkerflak "Flak" could also be a problem in terms of unit relation, at least during earlier years.

In my mod, the Bunkerflak can only be aqquired as anti-tank. But it has some limited artillery capability (range 1 Hex). I reckoned that someone would protest this decision, but so far, people have remained suspiciously silent

Below you will find a new unit mask. If you are still working at this sIG 33, you may consider stop working at the self-propelled version.
There will come more soon.

Anyway, I could still use this smaller sIG 33 with an appropriate gun elavation. :D

Who has published the refined Late Tiger I? Does anyone have a mask of that one? Just in case...

:?: Hello, anyone reading this, to whom it may concern... if you have masks of self-propelled anti-air units in anti-tank mode, and you feel this is good enough to be pubished here, you might want to publish as well. I can use those.

Thanks for the Kübels, guys!

Another unit I'm missing: leIG 18, the German standard infantry gun.

My German paratrooper actions typically ended in disaster because I was always missing a little artillery piece that could support against all these many entrenched AI units behind enemy lines. I fiddled together a leIG 18, which was also used by paratroopers, out of another artillery unit I've found here, but heck, it looks more like a pixel-salad than a cannon, so I won't show it here. :P
I hope someone can create nice one sooner or later with wooden and/or rubber wheels, it doesn't matter. I'll take anything that doesn't look like my garbage.

Hello to all!

Because AgustinMalar requested it, here is the 10cm Houfnice vz.30, a light field/mountain howitzer made by Skoda, and as wikipedia inform us, used by Germany, Slovakia and Romania. As always, it is available in the direct and indirect fire versions, base icon and masks are also included...

Its smaller caliber brother the 8 cm Kanon vz.30 (which used the same carriage) is in the pipeline (will be uploaded soon).

Enjoy!

Horst: The 7,5 cm leIG 18 is being manufactured... Stay tuned.

Also, the Wehrmacht HW unit behind the sandbag parapet will be improved, because I have found that the shadows are not correct/complete... (I'm a perfectionist! )

Another unit lot made by request of AgustinMalar, who is collecting Slovak units. This time, you can obtain some specific units (meant as the opposite to "generic" icons used in the vanilla game) in the infantry class, for the Slovakian Army.

- Mountain infantry, with their special overcoat.
- Infantry, in '39 and '42 variants (more sub-machine guns in the later unit)
- Parachute troops, again in '39 and '42 versions, the first with a bolt action rifle and the later with a SMG.
- 8 cm Mortar

Most of the big units portraits al also included.

They are all very similar and very "vanilla looking" but, I think, they can easily be told apart while in-game. I think you will like them!

Here is the link to dwnload (the file was too big to be posted here): http://www.sendspace.com/file/xs4u34

Enjoy!
