Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
Really excited about this game, though I have to say some of the early screenshots concern me a little, I realize they are early, though units lack some of the detail and color/paint schemes - this is especially noticeable on the naval units and tanks. Japanese tanks in WW2 had some beautiful camo schemes, here are some good examples:

Also this mod for Panzer Corps did an unbelievable job detailing some of their units, especially their naval units and infantry.

That all said, I'm in for this game and can't wait for it to come out!

Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
We did some camouflage pattern tests early on in the game development on japanese vehicles. But the consensus was that it broke up and obscured the vehicles shape and details too much. While that's exactly what camouflage is for
, we decided to go a more clear approach instead.
Alternatively we could make camouflage patterns optional, but no promises that'll be in the first release.

I believe the vast majority of gamers would prefer the camo look, it's more realistic and immersive. The PTO was unique compared to the conflict in Europe and elsewhere, units often used an extensive amount of guerrilla tactics, irregular troops and camo played an important role given the dense vegetation and foliage. BTW, the two camo units on your screenshot look much better than the plain Olive drab look of the top vehicle, IMO. Additionally, the Japanese flag symbol at the base of the units instead of being zoomed in so close to just the red sun, how about this look instead:

Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
@adherbal - I am very much in favour of having historical camouflage for all units. That said I have to agree that in your picture, by comparison with the one paint version the others disrupt the details on the unit to some extent. Still, I think the version on the bottom right is a good compromise in this regard and I`d personally appreciate "historical" colours wherever possible. Of course, if you`re able (even if not from the first release) to make everyone happy and provide units with camo and without as an alternative it would be impressive and you`d deserve a hug in addition to the price for the game.
That said, wasn`t the Japanese tank camouflage more detailed than in your test (that is to say having more than two colours)? I`m no expert, but I was looking at the cover of this Osprey:

Anyway, I like the special attention you`re giving both to the game and suggestions from its fans.

That's purely an assumption on your part. I personally agree with the developers and their arguments.philstat wrote:I believe the vast majority of gamers would prefer the camo look

Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
If were looking at how pretty it's going to be, paint schemes should be dynamic (depending on a scenario) such as Heavy Jungle-Heavy Camo (middle)
Invasions-Light Camo (bottom)
Urban-No Camo (top)

Urban-No Camo (top)
Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
Exactly, should be dependent upon the terrain, camo appropriate for the environment.

Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
I'd say, issue the game with plain and let modders add camo versions. Alternately, if programming resources and funding allows for it, issue the game with both versions and allow the player to decide which version to use in the Options menu.
Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
Agree with the last comment, I'm sure the modders will be all over this game, as they are for Panzer Corps. That being said though, after playing the DMP mods I have a very hard time wanting to play on the vanilla maps and original units.
I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to just have a stock and a cammo folder, and a choice as your are setting up a session.

Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
I prefer that a set of cammo files be included. Then make it optional via a UI switch.
Re: Camouflage, Paint Schemes, etc.
Something like World of Tanks would be cool, where you can apply various patterns on the vehicles. Maybe we'll look into that some time after the initial release.
