Mis-interpretation of HF/MF rule

Post by ravenflight »

Hi All,

I think my local group has been playing a rule incorrectly.

If a P&S BG fight a Shot(MF) only BG, but only the Shot actually fight (so the pike in the P&S act as overlap) do the shot take a -ve on the cohesion test for:

"Medium foot, warriors or dragoons testing for having lost close combat even partly against mounted troops or heavy or determined foot in open terrain** (see glossary)

Now, I would have originally said yes, because I thought I'd read somewhere that mixed formations are treated as the heaviest of the bases, so in this case Heavy Foot, but now I've just re-read:

p147

MIXED BATTLE GROUPS

Mixed foot battle groups test as if entirely of whichever of tehir component types is latest in the following list: light foot, medium foot, warriors, heavy foot, determined foot. (emphasis mine)

So, I think this is what I've been reading and thus mis-interpreting.

They TEST (i.e. if they have to test and the above example as a pike keil) as if they are Heavy Foot, but they don't CAUSE tests as if they were heavy foot.

Is that about right?

At impact No they do not take the -ve as the HF are not in combat. In Melee Yes, if the HF are contributing to the combat with a dice.
