FOG Napoleon possible?

Post by akmatov »

Is there any chance that there will be a digital FOG Napoleon? I saw one reference to it being worked on over at Matrix, but that was 2010.

Not announced. Would not look forward to it if it would contain same mechanism like FOG ancient and medieval. Some things like morale, supply, battle line, marching/collumn/line/square formations, shooting, charging are crucial for mechanism of Napoleonic warfare. It would take complete redesign to implement those.

welk provided a Napoleonic mod sometime ago. I believe that some players still have a copy of the files?

I have seen rule systems for Napoleonics that don't necessarily rely on formations i.e. Horse, Foot and Guns, though I haven't played those ones specifically. Would it be that difficult to adapt FOG to FOG-N and perhaps make iterative improvements as the game goes along, rather than having a huge stumbling block at the beginning? I would prefer that to not having anything at all for years.

I always admired the idea behind De Bellis Antiquitatus where what has previously been viewed as complex factors was boiled down into an elegant system. Perhaps digital FOG-N might be simulated with this concept in mind to begin with?
